My World is currently made of leaves, leaves everywhere in great and glorious golden abundance. With a fully loaded Cottonwood, huge Native Elm and Maple surrounding us, the ensuing fall-out has overtaken us. (By the way, the shot above involved me lying flat on my stomach amongst all the leaves for about 20 minutes as I snapped away. Who knows what the neighbours would have thought had they seen me - "what's that crazy Brit' doing now?")
They have suddenly taken over my home, last week my path to the garage was even blocked by a huge leaf-bank! Once we had grass in our backyard, now we just have leaves!
So this weekend the Hubster decided to take back our world. With the help of a neighbouring child keen to earn pocket money, a blower and his mulcher.....he set about regaining control. 25 full, mulched bags later we can once again see our lawn!

ReplyDeleteWow oh wow, that was a lot of leaves! I don't envy you that Cottonwood though, they are terrible at making me sneeze. Plus all that cotton stuff during the summer, yegads. Fun post.
ReplyDeletePam - we have the non-cotton producing kind of Cottonwood. It's my fave thing about our yard, as it gives us priceless deep shade in the heat of summer.
ReplyDeleteI think a lot of us a drowning leaves right now, or have been recently. As for lying on your stomach taking photos of the leaves - well, we all have to suffer for our art, don't we? :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is convinced that one of these days I'm going to be reported to the police or to social services for my birding/photographing/other nature activities. Perhaps if we're lucky, they'll give us adjoining cells.

ReplyDeleteSeeing Hubster on the edge of the roof made me think of the song "Don't jump off the roof Dad". I used to love that.
Also the One Foot in the Grave episode where Victor's boring acquaintance was going to commit suicide on the roof. Mind he did take all his clothes off!

ReplyDeleteWe have leaves all over, too. I like to rake them and put them on the garden and plow them in for mulch. Got any extra? tee hee
Gosh, you put your mulched leaves out for collection? I would turn them into compost to feed the garden. You're giving away a valuable gift from nature with free energy from the sun, full of minerals tht the roots of the trees have brought up, and need for their healthy survival.

ReplyDeleteArija - I would except we live in an area with a prevalence of snakes, including Rattlers. Composts are a huge attraction for them and that I do not need in my garden!

Well leafy it is! But you are not the only one I can sweep my back yard every day, but I don't for an hour later you can't see that I have spent a lot of time to clear the mess. Thanks for your lovely comment. I am glad with all those responses.
ReplyDeleteThat is a LOT of leaves! We have nothing like that unless we go to the river. I hate it that my kids can't rake leaf piles and jump in them. If we visit anyplace this time of year, the first thing I do is find a rake and make a leaf pile for my kids.

I know how you feel! Plus some are even making a home INSIDE my house! It drives me crazy!

ReplyDeleteWe have a honey locust right outside our front door and the leaves are tiny. They get everywhere. Since it's not my tree (it's the city's) and I've spent a fortune fixing clogged pipes, I decided to sweep the leaves to the side of the right for the street cleaner to pick up. Apparently the city recently introduced an ordinance making this illegal as it blocks the drains. Oops.
