Todays BWOTD is commonly used in daily conversation back home:
"The other person working with me is such a dosser""I just dossed around all day"'Doss' = to sit around and just do nothing!I do this pretty regularly in the evenings and I really don't care who knows it, so at times "yes I'm a dosser" :-)
I already know I'll be dossing on Sunday night as I watch the Oscars and admire the designer dresses floating by!
I doss too much.
ReplyDeleteWe use doss slightly differently here - we 'doss' down by arriving (unannounced usually) and swooping on the sofa, or some such, for a nights sleep. You may have in fact experienced an antipodean doing exactly this at your place in the UK at some stage lol. If not, lucky you!
ReplyDeleteI love to doss ;)
ReplyDeletezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I doss alot. Oh and I am looking forward to sunday to with the Oscars with all the frocks!.. Love your blog. NIce to find someone british blogging and living out here x x
ReplyDeleteI must be a dosser because my maiden name was Doss.
ReplyDeleteWow, another one I have not heard. Although I'm a bit tainted by the Oxbridge "DoS" or "Director of Studies," the person responsible for a student's academic progress.
ReplyDeleteAh yes dossing is one of life's pleasures...so DeeBee, you were Miss Doss then! (giggle)
ReplyDeleteyou know i forget these terms or that they are unique to UK so thanks again for reminding me, you silly dosser!
ReplyDeleteHAve you used "naff" yet?
not yet mmmmm
ReplyDeleteWe have a similar term that means the same thing. It is SOOFA. We SOOFA'd all day. Which stands for "Sat on our fat A**es"
ReplyDeleteI relate to that word, Sarah!!!!! I am the Queen of Doss.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Are you sure that's not cock-a-nee rhyming slang there, Sarah ??!!
ReplyDeleteI've vaguely heard of 'dossing around' but not for a long time and certainly not in any other context, like being a dosser. No wonder foreigners find our language so difficult to master when even we natives use words differently.
And not to be confused with t*****!
ReplyDeleteI love my doss time. I could doss around for days. Guess I'm a dosser.
ReplyDeleteI plan on doing a lot of dossing about this weekend. Have a good one.
ReplyDeleteDoss! Hahaha! That is so me. I am a dosser too. :P
ReplyDeleteHiya from SITS!
Dossing is great, so is being a dosser!
ReplyDelete...not to be confused with being a tosser, though...
ah, that's a new one! I've heard duffer but not dosser...thank you Sarah...let me go doff about now...house work has got me knackered!
