That would be my boss, our Elementary School Principal yesterday, who got dunked 14 times in freezing water!
Our Principal's Challenge this year was designed to encourage the students to read more. So they were set a target of achieving 3,500 AR points, with the promise of dunking the Principal if they succeeded. Well of course with that kind of reward they did it!
So yesterday a big tank was hauled in from the local Fire Dept and our maintenance man filled it with water. Early in the day it seemed like the whole process might not be too painful for her, as the weather obliged, being sunny and 74 degrees. But sadly for my boss, about 30 minutes before the start a squall blew through. The temperature dropped into the 60's, the wind was blowing at 30mph and it was trying to rain! In England we call this 'sods law'!
This was taken the first time she hit the water, which our maintenance man had kindly dumped three 5 litre buckets of ice into. I think you can tell just how cold it was from her expression and body language! I have to admit I like everyone else there, was falling about laughing at this point!
But she didn't just get dunked once, because it was decided the two students with the most AR points from each class would throw a ball. Well that equalled 14 shots and our sneaky maintenance man (who was loving every minute) had decided the target was too small for the kids to hit. So if you look above you can see the huge target he replaced it with, plus he made it ultra sensitive and they were given a basketball instead of a softball!
The end result being that Mrs N. got dunked all 14 times into the freezing water, with the kids enthusiastically chanting each throwers name. I'm sure it's not hard to imagine how much the kids enjoyed the whole event and on top of all the Easter candy they'd consumed, there was alot of over excitement!
Finally the water torture was over and she was given a towel to dry off by her husband, the High School Principal. There he is walking away behind her and take note of the big smile he's trying to suppress unsuccessfully!
When my boss walked back into our office 15 minutes later not only her teeth were chattering, her whole chin was LOL! I made her some hot tea, we pumped the heat up and she changed, but she was still freezing at the end of the day.
I had nothing but admiration for her as she kept on smiling throughout, but I suggested to her she might want to reconsider the head shaving option next year!
Looks like there was alot of fun had by all (except maybe your freezing boss-LOL)!

That is so much fun for the kids and she did it still smiling for them. What a trooper.

We still have one daughter is London, one in Barry, Wales and two here...a male kiddo and another female. Don't you know he hated the hormones in our house. theyare all grown and on their own now. I long for them every single day.
ReplyDeleteLondon kiddo is coming Monday and is brining Cadbury's, Branston Pickle and custard powder with her. We can't wait to see her, but of course I can't wait for her stash either.

She sounds like a good principal. Our principal dressed as Hannah Montana and rode a bicycle through town. In addition to the wig and clothes, HE shaved his beard and mustache to get the full Hannah look. The students vote on how he is to dress each year.
