Brit' Word of the Day

Todays BWOTD came to mind after I said it to a colleague this afternoon and got a blank look!

"You're not nicking anything are you?"

' to nick/nicking' = Steal/Stealing

The word 'nicked' can be the past tense with the same meaning. But it is also widely used by the public and Police to describe being 'nicked by a Policeman' = arrested by a Cop.

this always caused me trouble because it made me think there was some statement being made about knickers (which is another word i struggle with!)

I saw a telly programme the other day Sarah and I was reminded about your posting on pick up trucks. It was testing a huge one and commenting on why they never caught on here in the UK. It was done by what's his face who does the Top Gear prog.

His second reason was that your stuff gets "nicked" out of the back. His first was that they are rubbish. Comments to Top Gear please!
