I'm normal!

Well my levels of thyroid homone are normal finally after over 3 years on a constant rollercoaster up and down. I had been thinking I was going hypo the past two weeks, but blood tests have confirmed I'm normal, and so I was just 'anticipating' rather than experiencing it seems. And so now I am gonna quit worrying about that (note to self)!

This is definitely a major 'WOOHOO' moment for me, and it means that after some recent concerns it hadn't, the treatment I took seems to have worked. My last two physical exams of my thyroid have indicated that I still have a small amount of the gland remaining as planned. We are praying that this will now keep putting out just enough thyroid hormone, as it is right now.

When I was first diagnosed with the disease I was taking 22 prescribed pills a day and I was really very sick for months. Today I am taking just 1 thyroid replacement pill a day, believe me this is nothing short of a miracle to me!

It will be months before we know for sure if I am stable and more importantly, if I will stay there permanently. But today I am more hopeful than I have been in a very long time and for a change I actually feel pretty well.

  4. When I saw today's title "I'm normal" pop up on my blog roll, I knew I had to come over and check out what this normality was all about!! Your thyroid might be normal dear, but YOU are anything BUT normal. You're sensational, outstanding and extraordinary.

  6. Most excellent news ... in any other situation I would not applaud 'normal' because in any other situation normal is boring but when it comes to thyroids normal rocks!

  9. Well hoorah! I've been on thyroid med for two years due to abnormally high antibodies. It's a wonderful little pill. Now the hormones are a totally different story ...

  10. Glad to read that you're doing well. I'll keep a good thought. The fewer medications one has to take, the better I think.

  13. Wonderful news Sarah !
I suffer from low thyroid levels, though on the Synthroid it gets all the levels under control...
It seems to be hereditary did they tell you that ?
Keep you appointments regularly with the doc, as you probably already know, they need to keep an eye on you :)

  16. My mother, one of my sisters and both my nieces have terrible underactive thyroid which is so horribly treated in the UK. They have found far more effective treatment here. glad to see things improving for you on that front. Woot.

  17. Hooray for you. My family has had history with thyroid issues for several generations. My father had two-thirds of his removed when I was a child (benign tumor). I have been on meds for years and our oldest has a goiter and been on meds for years. So glad for you.

  23. I can relate to your difficulties. Both of mine have been removed but I must still be making some hormone because my medication was decreased the last time. It's been a bit tricky to keep my hormone balanced.

  25. So glad to hear you've gotten this under control, YAY for you!! One pill compared to taking 22 every day is a huge accomplishment. I'm sure you are ever so thankful everytime you take that one little pill. ;)

I have a friend who has Graves disease, and she's had one hell of a ride for the past few years. I feel so bad for her.

My thyroid levels were slightly low last year - I haven't had it tested since my move. But I'm wondering if some of my extreme exhaustion days could be related to thyroid. I have a book (that I haven't completed reading yet), The Thyroid Solution. I need to get back into that book....
