And another thing that wouldn't happen back home!

You're relaxing on your patio at 11pm on a Saturday night, when you notice your neighbours turning into their drive and then something odd happens.

A few seconds later they reappear again going back the way they came really slowly, they then swerve across the main highway to the wrong side and start tooting (honking) their horn with abandon!!

By now we are standing on a garden bench to get a clear view over the fence and watch in amazement as they proceed to veer wildly around the highway tooting their horn!! I'm now wondering if they're in deep distress or need of help, when the Hubster spots an Armadillo in their headlights. They appear to be trying to round it up off the highway LMAO!

We now both have the giggles and watch as they drive back to their garage. But no the entertainment's not over!

The pesky Armadillo with a death wish is back, so out they come again to repeat their wild antics across the highway, still tooting away. By now we are seriously losing it and finally the Armadillo decides to choose life and head for the baseball field.

This would never happen back home as we don't have Armadillo's roaming free, they're only seen in a zoo, and our highways are NEVER that quiet!

Needless to say I am delighted these dear ladies will be looking after our kitties whilst we're away. If they'll take such good care of a wild Armadillo, then our babies will be spoilt rotten no doubt!

Armadillos are pretty cool. When I lived in South Texas the local town used to have armadillo races. They were wild.

The year that I lived in Texas I believe I only saw an Armadillo as roadkill. What a lovely thing they did but I must admit if you weren't from that area you would find it a bit odd I'm sure. Who are these loony ladies? ;)

I've never seen one outside of a zoo. How neat but I don't think I would want one hanging around the house all the time.

The Hubsters comment after was pretty typical of the locals here, where they are seen as a common pest - "do ya think they'd be upset if I got my shotgun now?"

That is hilarious!

Stopping by from SITs.

I hate armadillos! They love to dig and tear up my flowerbeds. The ladies were too nice, he'll be back.

I started giggling just reading your Armadillo story! That was very nice of your neighbors though to care for this little creature! They are very unusual little animals-very prehistoric looking I think!

LOL! How very cool to see the armadillo and to know the neighbors are animal lovers.

Armadillos are so cool. Though they're tough on the garden. And if that were a 'possum? It would have been dead meat under my tires in a heartbeat.

On a trip down I95 to Florida once, I kept seeing blown out tires along the highway. Not until I saw a live armadillo walking along did I realize that it wasn't blown out tires I was seeing, but armadillo road kill. = (

Wow. Armadillos must be one of the coolest-looking species on the planet!!!

The incident could never take place here in Niger either, because (obviously) we don't have armadillos (nor a zoo), but we don't have highways either!

Are the friendly, by the way?

Unknown said...

Esther - no they are far from friendly! In fact they're known for being VERY aggressive and surprisingly fast too.

To answer the hubster, yes they probably would be.

But that was a very cute story. Also something you wouldn't see here in NY.

I just got caught up on your posts and was impressed by your camera accessories. I just bought a new Canon to replace the one that vanished (into thin air) and I considered the 780, but decided on the 1100 instead. I would have to get lots better (and more interested) in photography to do what you do.

That was a cute armadillo story too, and the hammock looks wonderful. I'll check back more often so I don't miss as much.

When we moved from Dallas to Chicago, we drove. I've never seen so many upturned 'dillos in my life. But yes, they are a bit mean.

Hilarious!

I think I see more 'dillos in Oklahoma and Missouri than in TX these days.
