Happy 4th July!
Wishing you all a happy & safe Independence Day and yes I do join in the celebrations, despite being a Brit. Although you'd be surprised at how many Americans ask me if we celebrate it too in England! My response is usually "absolutely, we celebrate getting rid of y'all"!Today we have 'big doings' going on just 25 miles away. A historic day for our little area, as we are visited by a former President here! Yep, George W Bush will be in town later and we won't be there. I'm afraid we're just not that fussed to fight thousands of people, 100 degrees and 50% humidity. So we are going to go and set a geocache and name it 'Born on the 4th of July', then later visit our towns celebrations. We have a beautiful lake here and our Fire Dept put on one of the best firework displays around over it, so we'll be there at dark. It's rather nice actually to do what we want, as this is our first 4th July without family or guests. And up top is the Red Velvet Cake (his fave) I made the Hubster for his birthday, made from scratch for the first time and I am NOT a baker, boy it was good :-) We also surprised him with a hamburger grill at our good friends, he had fun.Enjoy your 4th of July, what are you up to?
Well back here in Oxford, we had our British family out for a BBQ. They gave a toast very similar to what you said. Here's to the anniversary of getting rid of the US. Too funny. We didn't take offence as technically, we're Canadian. Only ou r son is American and he's only a year and wasn't listening anyway. :P
ReplyDeleteTook a long walk, interestingly not many people around, I love NYC on holidays for just this reason .. and lots of shops are open so I did a little shopping.. now to relax .. fireworks (other than the spectacular display Macy's sponsors) are illegal in NY State .. lots of cops waiting to enter Riverside Park at dusk to confiscate and/or arrest those who insist on being scoff laws!
ReplyDeleteWe drove 2 hours south to my brother-in-law's farm for and extended family BBQ, swimming and hanging out. He and his wife live on a 200-acre almond farm, so of course we will be going home with several large Ziploc bags of raw almonds...they freeze well. We son't see fireworks because theyre not allowed out here in the orchards.
ReplyDeleteThat red velvet cake looks scrumptious! Have a wonderful Fourth of July evening of fireworks!
Down here in hot Austin we're gonna pitch some horseshoes later, grill up burgers and links for sausage wraps, watch "Capitol Fourth" on PBS and then set off a few fireworks of our own! Yummy-looking cake Sarah---Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteThe cake looks fantastic!

Happy 4th to both of you, sounds like you have a fun, relaxing day planned.
ReplyDeleteWe are hanging out at home - his daughter and family left early this morning to head home to WY, so it is nice now to relax after the flurry of activity to prepare for their arrival! ;)
(The cake looks yummy!!)
Happy 4th of July!! *grin* at England celebrating the 4th.....
ReplyDeleteDon't blame you for not wasting your time on George W.
ReplyDeleteWe had a parade in the park and because we can't shoot fireworks, we shoot water at each other instead. Supposedly there was a dry zone. I was in uniform at the visitor center so was safe from water.
Have a Happy 4th, and be thankful you got rid of us.
Just finished watching the thunderstorm pass through and hoping it dries out enough to catch some fireworks from the front yard!!!! Had a neighborhood picnic earlier and a bike ride. That's about it from here, not as exciting as last year, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteThat is one fine looking cake and I think you're hiding your talent under a bushel, Sarah...you are a baker, you know! Happy 4th...and I'll visit you often between now and November and I'll be wishing you a happy Guy Fawkes Day...we burn a bonfire and everything just to entertain ourselves lol!
