Would you choose to buy a home and live on a street named 'Triple X Street', and who on earth thought of it?
I kid you not! We were watching the OKC news tonight and they referred to a fire on Triple X Street. The Hubster and I kinda did a double take, sniggered and contemplated how most residents might earn they're income? You can just imagine some of the images I got when I googled it for a piccie to go up top!
The mind boggles and we might just have to GPS it next time we're down there ;-)
Okay I now award you the Honest Scrap Award! Come to my blog to get it. :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant - what an original name!
ReplyDeleteI imagine that whenever they have to give their address, they must get many strange looks and a 'huh?'
ReplyDeleteTriple X street sounds fab - Although I have this funny feeling that it could be a run down old people's home and they failed to see the irony.
ReplyDeleteIt is really "Triple X Road" and I used to pass it when my parents lived out that way in Eastern Oklahoma County.
ReplyDeleteActually, as I understand it, the name has to do with the original plats as they were laid out. Streets were assigned letters on the grid, and then renamed later. So I assume Triple X Road was the third time through the alphabet and never re-named through the years. And probably wayyyyyy before anything with an "X" meant pornography!! I could be wrong, but believe that is how it came about. Makes sense anyway.
Also out that way is "Indian Meridian Road" which is the dividing point in Oklahoma between East and West as far as land reference points. It is the old legal secretary in me coming out now.
Same thing for Kay County, Oklahoma. When the counties were being mapped, they were assigned letters. Guess which county was assigned the letter "K"? Hmmmm.
BTW, next time you are down, I'll take you out that way. It is far (FAR) eastern Oklahoma County. Almost to Choctaw. It is a main north/south road that probably isn't as rural as it used to be.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I could believe this in LA maybe, but not so much in Oklahoma. = )
ReplyDeleteomg....I have to google it myself and see if there's any history to the name.
ReplyDeleteok just read the response from Pambury...I still wouldn't jump at living there...not everyone knows the whole plats explanation unfortunately...
ReplyDeleteYou have to wonder who names the streets sometimes. In a rural valley outside the little town we just moved away from, the homeowners named their own roads, one HUGE ranch sported the names, Asshole Lane, and Shopaholic Bitch Lane. Which doesn't leave a lot to the imagination about who lived in the giant gaudy McMansion, does it?
ReplyDeleteSeems it's a road that is a bit of a fire hazard.

It goes all the way up into Luther, OK as well.
ReplyDeleteI pass it everytime I leave my work in Edmond and am driving back to Tulsa on Rt. 66.
Just visit Pops in Arcadia and drive 6 miles east and it's a little road with a stop sign :D
If you choose to live on Triple X Street I suspect you don't give a four X about its name!
ReplyDeleteMaybe XXX Street is a Roman road?
great post! and interesting to read all the comments, too! :)
