So let's discuss....hot vs CRAZY HOT!!
4:28pm - our high for the day, on the patio in the shade! 9:41pm - it's dark but still over 100 degrees - are you kidding me! When I agreed to move to Okieland, I knew I was signing up for tornado warnings and crazy wind gusts. I did not know I was signing up for 24 inches of snow in 24 hrs on March 30, and 116 degrees on July 10!! And this is supposed to continue until at least next Thursday and this was day 3 already. I am now truly an Okie. Today I was in the dark all day, every curtain drawn tight (I used to ignore the Hubster when he asked I do this), fans and air-con on and barely putting a toe outside. You won't be finding this Englishwoman out in this midday sun!

Oh, I so feel for you Sarah, i really do. I don't know how you bare it. One big prob with Oklahoma. Well, a t least the peeps are great. Some of the nicest people you will ever meet anywhere. I love that about your neck of the woods.
BTW, thank you for all your comments peppered over the place. That book sounds intriguing. can you post name of it on blog and I can look it up?
Wow, so sorry for you. I do not miss that type of weather (which was very common for the midwest).
Now, I get to enjoy mid 70s during the day and mid 60s at night. And I would not trade it for anything. (Especially since the people here dont have the same hangups and are much much nicer. I enjoy being treated like a person, not a color.)
But hang indoors and drink lots of lemonade or tea...try to stay cool!
Oh my gracious! I am really feeling for you. I really don't like hot weather. Thank goodness we've got our trade winds. I wish I could send some over to you.
I am with you on this one. I am currently sitting in my office and it is 113 with 70% humidity. I drove to work this morning and I think my ass is still stuck to the car seat!
We don't have the variations in the weather, the last time it rained was about 6months ago for 3 hours. the country came to a standstill and everyone got the afternoon off work!
You've got to be kidding. 116?????????? Wow. I just cannot imagine.
I feel for you but not too deeply because I know that a version of that sort of heat will be here in NYC before the month is over .. we dont call them the Dog Days of Summer for nuttin'
Read a good book, watch a DVD ..maybe Smila's Sense of Snow ..and have a nice glass of iced tea
I dread August with all my heart. This July has been oddly cool, only as high as 90 one day so far...I feel for you! Please try to stay cool and don't exert yourself to much in the heat of the day...you know what they say about maddogs and Englishmen (women).
hugs
Sandi
Best to hunker down when its that hot.
Oh, poor Sarah, I feel so bad for you. I thought it was hot in Garden Valley when it got to 108, but 116??!!! Deadly. I'm sending iced tea, iced coffee, lemonade and ice cream thoughts your way.
We're vacationing on the coast of Oregon right now where the high is 67 today. Sorry, I shouldn't have told you that. Ditto what Yogis said, hunker down.
Yup, Oklahoma summers, winter and spring...it's what I love about the place. Just blink and the weather will change. To keep cool in the summer at my Greatgranny's we would go to the creek that was always freezing. Memories, like the corners of my mind....oh I'm on a roll today. Keep cook Sarah.
can imagine!
You know what Will Rogers said about predicting Oklahomas weather. The only people that try are "newcomers and damn fools."
Have shutters installed = it certainly makes a difference. Although we live in Europe most of the time, in Belgium and UK, our Sicilian bolthole is wonderful but we need our shutters. They were not too expensive and I am sure in the US they would be even less.
The only Oklahoma weather that holds true year after year is Hotter Than Hell in July & August. It's anything goes for the rest of the year.
I would hate that, too! It's about 74 here and I love it!
Get a spray bottle to mist yourself. I do that when in extreme heat+hot flashes.
Oh crikey that sounds really awful. Hope it cools down for you soon. Just as well you don't have to go to work!
I won't moan when it gets a bit cool here in summer. Honest!
Wow. It's not quite that hot on my side of the state but hot enough that I'm staying inside with the air conditioning. Sheesh! What did people do before that miracle of modern technology?
I love hot weather, but that is too hot even for me. I thought it got hot here in Virginia, but I never remember it being above 110.
Is the humidity high?
No thank goodness we have low humidity!
Girl I hear you. It has been miserable hot but I think you guys have it a bit worse than us. My English father-in-law once asked why there were so many trees planted close to the house (in the older neighborhoods) ... one reason only .... SHADE! I don't think he ever *got it*
Pam I said to Hubster this morning, if Pam & J have been out cycling in the evening it's not as hot in OKC. Last night it was still over 100 at 10pm here!!
Im the same. If it's too hot I stay indoors with cold air blowing on me. I only venture out when it's below 85.
