Brit Word of the Day

So I tested this BWOTD on the Hubster for understanding:

"I've been feeling dicky for a few days now"

Dicky = unwell

Not that I have literally been feeling anyone called Dicky. Don't rush to a mirror if a Brit ever asks you if you feel okay, because they think "you look a bit dicky"!

So get out there today and accost a friend or two that looks under the weather, with this BWOTD. It may rise a smile!

    Gigi lol! That would be 'a' dick, I think most Brit men would be insulted if you called their apendage a dicky!!

    I've noticed a lot of kids in the UK now use the Aussie word "crook" to describe feeling unwell. I love how language evolves.......

    One big difference between the US and UK is that Americans say "sick" for everything from a headache to a fever whereas Brits are "ill" or "poorly" and "sick" is just when your stomach's a bit off-colour - "gippy" or "dicky".

    I was talking to an Aussie on the phone the other day and she asked me if I was "boogering." I was totally startled not sure if she was asking me about some deviant sexual practice. Turns out, whe wanted to know if I was dicky... I guess.

    Oh, I'm sure if I used this phrase, it would arouse more than just a smile, perhaps a few laughs or odd looks as Daryl mentioned. LOL

    Boyfriend is from Northern Ireland and constantly comes up with new words that I just guess at. Over Christmas holiday he was back home and called me to say he had a dicky tummy. I didn't even bother asking, but figured it wasn't a good thing. :)

    The only time we would have used it was regarding your heart or some other organ.
    I once saw a band play called Dicky Heart and the Pacemakers. Tee hee.
