You know everyone is desperate for a change of weather, when numerous people I spoke to today happily discussed Punxsatawney Phil not seeing his shadow and their relief!
I think Groundhog Day may just be the quaintest of all American traditions, it's certainly one of my favourites.
As Brits we have our own fair share of odd celebrations like Pancake Day, Bonfire Night etc...but I can't say many around the nation await the result in quite the same way, even though most are tongue in cheek.
So according to Phil's appearance today he saw no shadow and Spring is near, after the past two days I have to say I hope he's right!

They always made a big thing of this in Chicago, but we ALL KNEW that there was no way in ---- that we'd be getting spring in 6 weeks. Sigh... but we hoped.
I could also never remember if it was seeing his shadow that brought spring or if he didn't see his shadow. I guess I've always had a bad memory.
We kind of chuckle here in the Pacific Northwest over Groundhog Day. In the midwest, if it is cloudy, it could mean it is warming up to rain. Here it is usually cloudy, and means nothing. The fact that we could see our shadows today was thrilling for us!
I hope so too. Seems the older I get the less I care for the winter months. All I want to see is trees budding out and short sleve weather. I don't know how this groundhog thing got started but personally it is a joke and way too much is made of it.

Wouldn't you think that if he could see his shadow it would mean sun and perhaps an earlier Spring? This always seems backwards to me.

Hmm. Six more weeks of winter? Or six more weeks till spring?
The number of weather-forecasting groundhogs is amazing. I'm happy to say that our southern groundhogs didn't see their shadow either (it was snowing here this morning), so I guess that makes it fairly unanimous that Spring will be here in only six weeks!
Yeah, me, too, for your sake! Tired of winter!
I don't have much faith when it comes to what the groundhog does or doesn't do.. BUT--it's fun to think that we may have an early spring... I HOPE.

Yes, I love the little guy, but I love the keeper's outfits even better. I was watching them getting their groove on before the event. Nothing like a man dancing in a top hat.
At this point I'm SOOOOO ready for spring and summer! Cabin fever for sure.
I wonder how Phil can see anything under the glare of the media lights
Hell Yeah! There ya go...lol But after a few days of lovely spring-like weather, we're back to rain. :(
Yeah, Groundhog Day is a weird bit of a holiday.
