So this is what I have been up to for quite awhile now in the evenings, a Christmas Quilt. There are a group of us at work making them, originally we hoped to finish for Christmas 2010, but now it will be 2011 when I finally get to use this!
The blocks are appliqued and then I am hand quilting around everything on each one, double click the piccie to see this better. When it's done, I will have the whole thing hand quilted by the ladies quilting group who originally introduced me to this wonderful craft. I hardly ever sewed a stitch and never sewed an item before I moved to Oklahoma!
This is just the centre section. It has a border around this and then one more row of blocks on each side featuring Christmas style trees and then a Gingerbread Man in each corner, and then the bound edge.
I am just putting the finishing touches to my Santa row at the moment, eyes, noses and something to finish out the hats on the end, which I am still trying to decide on.
Although it's taking many months, I really enjoy quilting and the detail and design involved. We have now just started our next project, which is a Queen size friendship quilt of Cupcakes and plan to exchange our blocks in April. We hope to finish out our Christmas quilts in March sometime, so I have plenty to keep me busy on these dark, cold winter nights!
Do you have a craft or hobby like this you enjoy?

I hate to sew! But I do appreciate the handiwork of others. This one is quite beautiful!
This is adorable, Sarah. I learned to knit when I was a young girl but didn't do it for a few decades. A couple of years ago one of my good friends and I took a refresher class at the local yarn shop. I've been knitting since then. I love it!
Oh my! What an enormous amount of work! It will be stunning when it's done! I know quite a few people who quilt, but most of them machine quilt.
I used to do counted cross-stitch, but since I've had kids I stick mostly to knitting.
I love quilts. Your is very impressive.
Those penguins are adorable! Seems like a lot of work though.
I paint a little, but nothing quite as impressive.
Wow, that's beautiful. I would love to try something like this, but I"m so intimidated by it!
Your quilt does you credit Sarah, especially if it is the first one! You've done really well. I love the little snowmen. Can't wait to see the finished result. Keep stitching.
Projects? yes, I've always got something on the go. You can see my efforts on my stitching-stars Blog:

Wow Sarah, that is beautiful I'm quite the cratfer but I never got into quilting. I like to knit and sew. I used to do a lot of cross stitch but it's hell on the eyes and there's only so many cross-stitch gifts you can give.
That is so beautiful and unique. Great job.
That is too cute, Sarah. You've done a great job with your applique. I hope you'll post a photo of the completed project; sounds darlin'.
WOW! This is gorgeous, Sarah! I've never been a quilter, but I know enough about it to appreciate it! I'm a smocker. :)
Wow, I am impressed. Not being a sewer myself I can barely imagine how much time and work goes into a project like this. I like my crafts to be finished pretty fast so I can move on to the next idea.
Teaching a jewelry class tonight.
Stay warm.
Sewing like math eludes me .. but I do love taking photos
You've created an heirloom piece, it's precious.
My daughter quilts, I collect them :)

Your doing a beautiful job with this quilt. I really like your figures. I hope you'll show us the finished product when it's done.
*thud* Oh.So.Beautiful! I have always wanted to create a quilt but not sure I have the patience for it. I love to do counted cross stitch when I get the chance. I will be looking forward to seeing the cupcake quilt.
That is so very cute. I've done a teensy bit of quilting and loved it, but my heart is with the painting.
When I first moved to America, I decided I'd like to take up quilting, and I looked for a group. I didn't find one, and somehow the moment passed. I would like to, though.
I love hand quilting. I'm currently working on one I hope to get done by Christmas 2011. Yours looks beautiful. Very festive.
