Todays BWOTD is very commonly heard back home:
"She just got all het up about it for no reason"
'Het Up' = Agitated or flustered
This would have been exactly how I'd describe myself last Friday when 2 of the 'minor' (thankfully) awards were not at the Assembly! Guess what - yesterday I found them casually sitting exactly where they had been all along, in MY awards folder instead of my bosses!!
Haven't heard this one yet. *writes it down*
ReplyDeleteIt must come from "all heated up." No one's perfect, but you're close to it as a secretary!!!
ReplyDeleteSee, my grandmother used to say that. That's what has been so interesting to me about some of your Brit words is that they're words I heard from my grandparents and great-grandparents growing up. Though they all talked like the Arkansas country people they were - their "way back" roots were British Isles - Irish and English.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your blog. I am an Okie who loves all things British!! Particularly MINI Coopers! What part of the state do you live?
ReplyDeleteI get all het up a lot ..
ReplyDeleteHeard of it, but it's not something I've ever used. Love your BWOTW by the way!
ReplyDeleteOh I love that word :)) and how Kat wrote it down!
ReplyDeleteLOL! I had no idea that was a Brit word; I thought it was a hick word. Someone once made fun of me for being a hick when I said "het up" so I've been careful to never say it again.
