The 'Royal' Equivalent?

I have been enjoying the Inauguration ceremony as a proud American for the first time today, and truly I do feel proud.

I may not always agree with The Presidents politics and ideas. But this is one of those days when America rolls out their own equivalent of true pomp and circumstance and gets as close to a royal event as I think they can. The stunning setup at The Capitol and the huge throngs of people as far as the eye can see down The Mall, really are impressive.

I had one negative thought throughout the whole event - she did a great job, but I think Beyonce just got her payback for all her support and sycophancy over the past 6 years!

All it needed was a fly past, alot less celebrities, a family balcony wave and a lot more fancy hats, and I think I'd have felt quite at home!

  1. I tweeted that Wolf Blitzer kept using the word "majestic" which, given the GOP criticism of Obama's Executive orders, probably wasn't the best choice.

  2. I haven't had the courage to look at the coverage. When I saw the list of performers, I figured I'd just watch American Idol and call it good. American culture is better than that, but it got lost in the shuffle.

Thanks for your warm post. God bless.

  3. It's great to see you posting again. This was my second inauguration as an American Citizen and I felt proud too. It was quite spectacular. I was not as interested in the celebrity performances but I did enjoy the poet. I would like to read that poem as I couldn't take it all in. Can't remember his name right now but will look him up later. He was on MPR recently and he seemed a real nice guy.

  4. Not sure what you meant about Beyonce's 'payback' .. the national anthem is not an easy 'song' to sing .. likely because it wasn't written to be sung, it was a poem .. nevertheless i thought she did an excellent job ... as did James Taylor ./ but Kelly Clarkson for me was a big meh ... it was a really flawless day

  5. Well I missed it, I had to work. I read some of his speech and it sounded like a good one.

  7. My brain has been so preoccupied lately that I totally forgot the inauguration until suddenly I remembered and turned on the TV in time to see Obama get sworn in. My son was out there in the crowd at the capitol, probably freezing and texted us a photo. As for Beyonce, I know that she lip synched but I don't see why that's such a big deal to have such a media uproar.
