Brit' Word of the Day....

Today's BWOTD is:

"We went over but the state of their house was pretty manky"

'Manky' = gross or disgusting

This comes from the french word manquer which means to fail, so has been changed somewhat by translation. Manky is a descriptive word that is common in the UK when talking about things or people.

i LOVE the word manky. we don't have a good equivalent. i've heard it referred to as food that is going off, stray dogs, etc. it is a great all-purpose word!
