My 'Cougar' moment!

Regular visitors may remember my worship for Adam Lambert last year on American Idol. So when he announced he was coming to OKC with his tour, they're was never any doubt I was going!

I share my adoration with great friend and fellow work colleague Mandy, and the thought of this concert kept us going through the craziness of preparing for the new school year! We had one helluva week leading up to our big night out and the perfect remedy proved to be screaming at the 'Glambert'!

And he did not disappoint, the venue was packed full, small and standing only, so we ended up pretty close and ready to party.

Apart from 'the voice', Glambert is known for re-inventing 'guy-liner' and the black finger nail polish. So in honour of our 'Idol' we both went very much overboard with the 'slap' and donned appropriate nail wear!

The rest of the night was spent in awe of his voice, beauty, overt sexuality (trust me on this, we may not be his type, but there were ALOT of swooning women around us!) and general greatness in all things. This man is going to be a megastar; his charisma just oozes out of every pore, his voice is incredible and he can he sing and perform with the very best.

We loved the old style use of multi coloured lasers, the many typically Glambert costume changes and liberal use of glitter! If you liked him on AI and he comes near you on tour, then go and you will be blown away by his amazing concert.

As for the Hubster - well he chauffered us into OKC bless him, went off to eat, shopped at Pro Bass, enjoyed street music and then endured 3 hours home, with us two wittering on about how hot Adam Lambert is like a couple of teens!

Sadly neither of our very macho Okie Hubsters will entertain the thought of leather pants, despite both having the necessary physique!

I can still scream like a teen!

And on Friday August 6th, one of my bestfriends and I will be doing just that when we get to see 'Glambert' aka. Adam Lambert in concert in OKC!

We were both huge fans from the moment he stepped on the AI stage and have been praying for a date in OKC on his national tour. Well our prayers were answered and we are going to seriously 'rock out' judging by his latest video.......

Unsurprisingly our respective Hubsters are not interested in watching us scream and dance like teens for a couple of hours. We may not be Glambert's type, but that hasn't stopped us both developing a bit of a crush!

To say we are slightly excited would be an understatement!

To be or not to be - talented?

As I watched the return of the American Idol auditions, it got me thinking about talent and more importantly, knowing whether you have any or not. Watching AI, I never cease to be amazed at how many appalling singers are convinced they're seriously talented.

And the family and friends often perpetuate the myth of their talent, when surely they must know the truth? At times it may have been painful, but I am eternally grateful that I come from a family of down to earth, tell it like it is northerners. As a result I always knew what I should perhaps pursue, and could tell from the laughter what I should leave well alone.

I know there are some things I definitely do NOT have a talent for and even hard work is unlikely to improve that situation. These would include, but are certainly not exclusive to:

Whistling - I make bystanders snigger and cats panic

Singing - just NO, NO, NO!

Drawing - never gonna sell a painting

Math - I always carry a calculator

Athletics - not limber, fit or coordinated!

There are some people who are born with a latent natural talent that sets them apart from an early age. But for most of us we find out what we're good at given time, perseverance and favourable circumstances. This has certainly been my experience.

I had a definite leaning towards some writing talent in school, I left wanting to pursue a career in journalism. But with the 'wisdom' of youth and a greater yearning to have fun, I didn't put in the work needed to turn my infant talent into a full-time career. Now I am finally starting to realise some of that potential, but I can never get back the years I lost and there are some inevitable regrets as a result.

To be honest, this is the only talent I really feel was naturally there from the start. I have always just 'known' I could be a published author and write a book, but it still needs that inevitable hard work.

Then there are the talents you develop with age and experience. For me this would only be photography, but it's not the same as my writing, it doesn't just flow from me. I know I'm not technically strong, but I have been told many times, I have an eye for composition and that's crucial to being a standout photographer. I am not into manipulating pictures for hours with Photoshop. I get all my pleasure and satisfaction from challenging myself to frame the picture perfectly or dramatically, with just what's in front of the lens.

If I had been more inclined to school work in my teens, I might have pursued either one through college and now be making my fortune. But hey, it's never too late, or the Hubster hopes so anyway!

Hubster believes I have other lesser but still noteworthy talents:

Organisation - aka anally retentive!

Cooking - he's just 'currying' favour!

My Elvis lip curl - just comes naturally!

So for all my 43 years of experience, I believe I have just two real talents to offer and now it's just down to me to maximise them. I am under no false illusions as to what I am good at and what I need to leave well alone. And despite the fact my greatest dream would have been to fill stadiums with my voice, you won't see me auditioning on Idol anytime soon!

So I want to know, what are your talents and what have you done to realise there potential? And are you honest enough to own up to your biggest 'non' talent?

Adam continues to soar

I was sent this link by Kymmie today, she & I spent months arguing on different sides of the fence about Adam Lambert during American Idol. I was a lover, she was a major hater and we got into it a few times! Well today she sent me this and said "I heard Adam Lambert sing Starlight by Muse this morning on GMA. I feel like I have to change my opinion about him only being a 70's -80's Glam Rock princess. I think he may have won me over...Its to die for, thought I'd let you know about my change of heart. :)

Well fair play to Kym for becoming a fan finally and having the guts to tell me LOL! I always thought he was a superstar in the making and can't wait for his album in October. I have read in many articles that the current AI tour has become the Adam tour and I'm not surprised. And he really resembles a young Elvis in this performance, I may not be his preferred gender, but he is still seriously hot ;-)

VOTE!

Well if you're an American Idol fan anyway, because tonight's the big finale with Adam Lambert & Kris Allen battling it out.

We have been fans of the 'Glambert' since day one and now think he's the most talented and individual contestant they have ever had. An opinion my fellow compatriot Simon Cowell agrees with, having read the many recent interviews with him.

We have also liked Kris from the start, but these two guys are just in different leagues now. Kris is your undoubtedly talented boy next door who will do well in the USA, whilst Adam is your fully fledged ready to launch rock star, who will succeed worldwide.

Everyone expects him to win, but as in previous years he needs votes not assumptions to actually win, so if you're a fan pick up the phone for him. Last week we voted on 3 phones for a full hour for him (a first for us) and no doubt we'll be doing the same tonight, thank goodness it's free!

If you haven't seen the 'Glambert' in action yet and don't know what all the fuss is about, here are our fave 3 performances.

Mad World which earned him the first ever standing ovation from Simon! An unplugged Tracks of my Tears" which earned him a standing ovation from Smokey Robinson. And finally see him rocking out to Led Zeppelin's classic Whole Lotta Love, which earned him the "Rock God" title from Randy & Kara and a "no-one can top that" from Simon!

The GLambert deserves to win having been the most consistent all season, plus the boy is a charismatic American Idol already.

What a mess!

We were not at all impressed with 'Country' week on American Idol, but on the upside they do have Brad Paisley guesting tomorrow. First off surely there were better options than Randy Travis! Most of it was pretty excruciating to watch, the boys definitely had the girls beat and why do some of them insist on trying to 'change' a classic.

Adam may need that wild card the judges have tomorrow, what was he thinking, Ring of Fire is a total classic and there are no words for what he did to it! Alexis should also have left well alone with 'Jolene' and what was Danny wearing?

Anyway we are still sticking to our 'best performance on the night' voting strategy, as we like them all (except Megan!).

Matt was our fave, he is an awesome pianist and singer, who Scott needs to take a lesson from right now, in changing it up.

Anoop Dogg definitely put himself back in the running, by just tweaking a classic and keeping it beautifully simple.

Kris is beginning to look like a dark horse, with a knack for picking the perfect song and a great voice.

We think Michael will go this week, Adam was bad but he has a following and we think they might save him if they had to, because as Randy says "the boy's got mad range dawg"!

If you're gonna have an opinion, then VOTE, it's the least you can do!

3/3/09

And our votes went to...

They saved the best to last on American Idol (except Danny)!

Lil, without doubt the best girl, Fantasia all over again!

Jorge, great voice, passionate, adorable, made me shed a tear!

Scott, an inspiration, beautiful voice and deserves to go far!

And the one we hope the judges give a wildcard to - Anoop Dog!

2/25/09

AI Yawn!

Boooring - this was such a monotonous American Idol tonight with only two exceptions for us and so they are getting all our votes.

Until Nick/Norm quite literally crawled on we were just about comatose! Sure he may have been more about entertainment than singing, but there is a big voice in there and he highly entertained us - I mean falling on the floor laughing. I think if 'Sanjiya' (season 6) can get so far on just great hair, then Nick can do the same with way more talent. We're still loving him and suspect America might prove Simon very wrong and put him through.

But they definitely saved the best for last, Adam was electric, indeed manic at times...but still 10 x better than the rest! He looks great, I think he has Elvis going on, the Hubster thinks David Cassidy. Amazing voice with incredible range, professionalism and real stage presence, he's going far.

Biggest disappointment of the night was Jasmine and the rest of the girls, with the exception of Alison who was just okay IMHO.

2/17/09

Mark my words....

Danny Gokey will be the next American Idol, barring a disaster

But also still loving Anoop 'Dog' Desai, so a vote for him

And still loving Alexis Grace, so she's the final vote

Simon had them all totally pegged as usual and we are liking Kara more each week, time to ditch Paula though!

2/11/09

American Idol - time to weigh back in!

So here are our predictions and the one we think they mistakenly let get away. There is alot of talent this year and we think it's going to be one of the best series yet.

So without any further ado, here are the ones we are favouring and thinking will definitely be Top Twelve:

Stevie - wonderful range, girl next-door & little different

Lil - powerhouse voice, probably 2nd last girl left standing

Alexis - dark horse and a cutie with an edgy look

Scott - ready to record, gutsy & immensely likeable, Top 6

Nick/Norm - great hidden voice, will get the popularity vote, love him

Jorge - very adorable, great singer, Latino vote, Top 6

Adam - very commercial, wonderful voice, will go far

Anoop - lovely guy, soulful voice, Asian vote, going far

Jamar - the one that got away and should be through!

Danny - last man standing, may well win, love him

Jasmine - last woman standing, may win, total package

As usual we are sick of the 'must have 6 men & 6 women in the Top 12 stupid rule. Again this year the men are better and it should be the absolute best, regardless of gender, that go through.

So you know where our love lies, what are you thinking??

It's Back....bring on Mr Nasty!

American Idol returns tonight and this show is a total weakness of mine! Generally I don't do reality shows, but ever since Pop Idol started the brand in the UK, I have been a fan. The Hubster just tolerates it, which tells you he loves me!

The next two nights are 2-hour audition shows, our fave part and always entertaining. This year they have introduced a new female judge, Kara DioGuardi, a former room-mate of Paula's and songwriter. The Hubster thinks this is tactical, so if Paula finally tips over the edge, they have a replacement in situ'!

Here's hoping Simon hasn't softened up, I love him to bits (not fancy you understand!) and he is rarely wrong. Bring it on.....
