Thank god it's just once a year!

So yesterday was the annual trip to the vet for shots with our 3 girls. Sukie got to ride on her own as befits her status as 'top cat', Cal-Jo and Bon-Bon got to ride together, we were hoping Bon-Bon might calm Cal-Jo down.

Well how wrong we were! Cal-Jo is more like a dog barking when you get her in a moving vehicle, for a smallish cat she can sure make some decibels and just never lets up!! You can just see Bon-Bon peeking out thinking 'what did I do to deserve this box mom'?

Poor little Bon-Bon just hunkered down beind her and never made a peep, wondering what all the fuss was about. We all had a headache by the time we had made the 30 mile journey to the vet and she was voted first up to get her shot, for being such a pain in the arse!

Here's Bon-Bon with the lady who saved her when she was so tiny and got Pneumonia, our lovely vet Belinda. As you can see she doesn't appear to be showing much gratitude, even though we just took her along so Belinda could see how big and lovely she is now.

We found out that they have recently discovered that if your cat is vaccinated on time each year, then after 3 years they have built up enough immunity to only get the rabies shot annually for 2 years. Then they have to have the full round again the following year, before being good again for 3 years. So the bill was $25 instead of $110, a very nice surprise!

We just didn't have the heart to put Bon-Bon back in the box with 'the wailing one' going home. So as she rides well, we let her travel back in my lap. Although she gets a bit worried by everything whizzing by so fast if she looks out, so she likes to keep her head down LOL!

We made it home with a clean bill of health all round and life has returned to normal. And here's our smallest cat Cal-Jo, who is always the chattiest, but hits another gear completely when put in a moving vehicle!

What is it with some cats and cars whilst others are just fine, we just thank god we only have one drama queen!! Next year she might find herself in her box in the bed of the Pickup, so the rest of us can have a peaceful ride!

You can never tell about cats. None of them like the vet though. They all try and grab onto the stainless steel exam table. We have a 20# maine coon who can really be a problem if she wants to be.

I agree, there's always one pet who puts up a fuss when you have to take them somewhere.

My girl Tori doesn't let much faze her -- going to the vet? No big deal for this girl. But her "dog-sister" Trixie is entirely a different story. I HATE taking her to the vet. I have to carry her in as she will back out of the most trusty collar, even a halter style collar! Everyone always thinks she is injured when I carry this 45 lb dog into the vet!

Interesting thoughts about the rabies shot -- wonder if it applies to the dogs too? I'll have to look into that! $25 compared to $110 is such a pleasant surprise! :)

It was the same for us - one could make so much racket you would think we were pulling his little nails out one by one!

Oh how cute. Makes me miss mine but not the chaos that we used to fight when dragging 4 cats and a dog to the vet. I didn't know that about the shots. Will have to tell the oldest as she has two cats. Glad you're feeling better.

Poor little booboos. I tell you what. There's nothing like the sound of a cat traveling to the vet in a crate/box/whatever. What a haunting howl they make. Makes you feel so guilty!!! jan

Mmm they certainly don't like the vets do they ungrateful little monleys.

I had nightmares last night about snakes chasing me after I read your rattlesnake posting. Good job there are no snakes here or I'd never sleep again! Don't know how you stay so calm.

Your Bon-Bon in your lap looks like Sheba in mine when she was a puppy. Today, that's not possible anymore!

That's great about the clean bill of health and lower vet bill!!

Count your blessings - my mother's cat actually got carsick on the way to the vet. Usually my weak-stomached older brother was behind the wheel (my mom doesn't drive anymore) and it was all he could do not to join Fuzzy in her nausea.

Conversely, my Abyssinian Gomez loved going to the vet as everyone made such a fuss over him. He'd sit in the carrier, front paws folded neatly and not a peep out of him. Just an "are we there yet?" look on his face.

Neither of my cats like trips to the vet. They howl all the way to the vet's office and tear at the carrier trying to get out. I'll have to take Maggie May for her annual visit next month. Thanks for the info about the shots.

Hmm - and here's me thinking only 5 year old humans made that much noise in the car!

Wow, what a beautiful cat! The one in the last picture. Both of them are beautiful of course but I especially like the looks of Cal-Jo.

We've never had a cat that was good with car rides. They all cry like scared little babies and make me feel sorry for them.

We currently have two cats a calico and a tabby with a lot of different colors - black, orange, cream, brown. I need to post another picture of them sometime soon.

Brave souls taking all 3 at once! Bonnie might need her own kitty carrier! and Caljo a tranquilizer!

I am convinced that some cats suffer from motion/car sickness just like humans. Both of our cats hate the car and cry the entire 2 miles to the vet. By the time we arrive, 9 times out of 10 the boy has peed in his carrier while the girl puked in hers. Poor babies!

Cats don't travel easily. Mine is a terrible traveller, poos everywhere and we have to fumigate the car for days afterwards.

Aw .. Gus who always makes the most silly little sounds around the house gets very vocal when he goes to the vet or if he wants to get my attention when I am ignoring him
