Book review....

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown:

WOW! I just spent the last 12 hours on a rollercoaster listening to this & it was totally gripping from start to finish. Thank goodness I had it on my iPod, otherwise I'd have sat & read it all the way through, doing nothing else!

The story revolves around an initial murder, an incendiary device set to blow-up The Vatican, a Papal election and the kidnapping of 4 Cardinals who are leading the race to be the next Pope. It is also a first introduction to Robert Langdon, the main character in Dan Brown's other bestseller - The DaVinci Code. It is full of twists, murders, historical facts, wonderful descriptive passages that place you right in the midst of the action and fascinating actual details about the workings of The Vatican.

It is almost entirely set in Rome, a place I love and have visited twice including touring The Vatican, which was utterly awe-inspiring. I was therefore even more drawn into the book as I could actually place myself in many of the famous locations, even guessing ahead from clues given, as to which famous landmark the plot would visit next.

The penultimate few chapters were brilliant, not at all expected and left the story very satisfactorily wrapped up.

I heard earlier this week there is now a movie of this book in the works and I am certain it will not only be a visual feast, but also a huge hit. Read it NOW!

oh sarah, this was my favorite of the dan brown books, by far. can't wait for the movie of this to come out, except i agree with many that tom hanks isn't the man for the job to play the lead. however, this is one amazing read and feeds my italy addiction as well:)

Funny you should say about about Tom Hanks, I said the exact same thing to hubby after finishing it. Robert needs to be played by someone much younger and with more fire, the actor we thought of was Clive Owen a Brit' actor (he was in Closer, Derailed & Elizabeth the Golden Age).

Bad news - I checked on IMDB and the movie is already in pre-production with Ron Howard as Director and Tom Hanks as Robert!!

Great review Sarah!

I knew they were making a movie of this one. I read DaVinci and also saw the movie. I had wondered about this one. I mostly wondered about reading them out of order. I might have to add it to my library list anyway, before the movie comes out...

On a side note - do you download audio books from Audible.com or iTunes to play on your iPod?! :)

Happy Reading (and listening!)

Stacy - I get the books on CD from the library & then stick them on my iPod via iTunes. Free and then handy to listen to as I go to sleep or anywhere else. Personally I still think the cost is too high for audio books online, for that price I'd rather have something to hold!

I thought the movie Angels & Demons was awesome even though Im not really a Tom Hanks fan, and far better than the Da Vinci codes which was a bit disappointing.
