Despite now having lived here for nearly 2.5 years, there are still some typically British things I do regularly, if not daily:
I still convert everything from Dollars into Pounds before deciding whether to spend any money!
I read a British Newspaper online every morning as soon as I log on, to check everything's ok at home & get news
I still start every single day with a hot mug of tea, usually PG Tips (which I have to buy online) or Earl Grey. But my hot tea intake doesn't stop there; when I get home from work I'll have another cuppa and usually another one during the evening. As well as hot traditional tea with milk, I also drink Green Tea and various flavoured tea's - still a tea addict and hubby is now also a convert to hot tea with milk and sugar!
I still regularly refer to the restroom as the 'loo' in private. I soon got out of the habit of asking for the loo in public, due to all the blank stares I encountered. But when I am at home or at a friends it's still 'I am just popping to the loo'!

Hello my midwestern counter part. Sorry life it seems has treated you as a fish out of water. Trust me when I say I know that feeling all too well. I neither enjoy ridicule and intolerance of those who are differ from me, rather I try to learn and appreciate. I have found not many midwesterners subscribe to that train of thought. Your water tower picture makes me laugh, I have come to hate them honestly. I've seen enough to last me a lifetime. I empathize with you and admire your bravery for making the life change. I too met my spouse online, fell in love after a long distance relationship and moved to the middle of America to learn to adjust to a strange world.
Happy blogging to you.
I bet you do get a lot of blank looks in OK when you say you're going to the loo! :)
Another great post!
Thanks for posting on my blog, Sarah. And you are so on the mark about the gaining 6 lbs. for one days of KFC. Sooooooooo not fair! And what about the Girl Scout cookies that will be arriving at my door in a few days?? After I eat every morsel, I'm wondering what the damage will be. And you KNOW there will be damage.
Hello! Do come visit my Okie blog too!
I start my day with a mug of French Roast coffee...but the afternoon has to be Earl Grey or Lady Grey which is very good too. I also loved the Yorkshire tea but have already used up all the box that my friend sent me...boo!!
All this talk of beverages has me thinking I need to go to the loo *wink*
Hope you have a great day!
I am a tea and coffee drinker but I definitely want to try some of that tea! I have a Scottish friend who always refers to the "loo" and she has been in the US for years!
