Brit' Word of the Day....

Today's BWOTD tends to be used in specific circumstances:

"It was quite a party and by 10pm everyone was getting pretty lairy"

'Lairy' = a person being loud and a bit in your face

As to the circumstances when this would be applicable, I would say 90% of the time it's when someone has had too many alcoholic bevvies (drinks). But you have to understand this is not a bad word, because most of Europe and especially England has a far greater drinking culture than here (an article on this following soon). It's just a fact and this is just a word used in relation to this, I will admit I've got more than a bit lairy on occasion myself!

These days the Graves Disease drugs have put an end to any lairiness on my part, but being a Brit' ya just never know when it might breakthrough my now more restrained persona! ;-)

john also uses lairy to describe something overly decorated or a little bit glaring, if i am putting that in the right way. for example, a sequined jacket would be too lairy for him to wear. A decked-out car with too much chrome -- he would describe that as lairy. interesting choice for today! :)

Well I guess he's using it the same way, because I would describe things like that as a bit loud!
