Today's BWOTD is a great everyday word:
"Oh I'll get that done for you in a jiffy"
'Jiffy' = Hurry
However you wouldn't use this to say "jiffy up", well not unless you wanted to get a very strange look (important note* - there is a condom brand in the UK called Jiffy)!
You really only ever hear this combined with "in a jiffy" but don't ask me why, so use with caution :-)

I've used that one alot. I didn't realize it was a Brit word.
(I still haven't gotten over the "knocked up" BWOTD. ROFLMAO)
They say that a lot here too, in the south. Sometimes it's shortened to "in a jiff". I think a lot of southern expressions might be traced back to the UK!
There is even a brand of baking mixes with the name Jiffy.
OK now I'm hungry. :)
I have heard this most of my life, as rurality said, maybe it's a Southern thing!
BTW, I'm reading a book set in the 20's in England and keep running across words that I want to mention to you :) The page I'm on has one - "chuffed". Love that word :)
Have a great day!
