Brit' Word of the Day....

Today's BWOTD has nothing to do with any movies:

"Oh he's really bad about telling porkies"

'Porkies' = lies

This goes back to good old cockney rhyming slang again and comes from pork pies = lies.

one of my fave rhyming slang words and not to be confused with mince pies (eyes). The usual rule to confuse the Americans is to NOT use the part of the phrase that actually rhymes! Pork Pies = Lies ... sure drop the pies, use the pork.
