Brit' translator required for Pre-K!

One of my colleagues is a teacher with the cutest little boy in Pre-K. She said he came home a couple of weeks ago and asked her why I was asking his teacher every morning if they had any "eggs & cheese"?!

Well a very lengthy conversation ensued between them, as she was certain this was not what I was asking and he was equally as certain it was!

He told her, Miss Sarah comes on and says "Good morning Mrs Holley, do you have any eggs and cheese today?" and he even tried to impersonate me LOL! His mom assured him I was not asking that, but couldn't think what it was he mean't.

This discussion continued off and on for a few days and he was still adamant he was right. Finally whilst my colleague was driving it suddenly came to her like a lightening bolt. She told her son what I am actually saying, which is correct...

"Good morning Mrs Holley, do you have any ABSENTEES?"!!

That accent of mine gets the little ones everytime ;-)

I tend to speak Spanish with an English accent, and that really throws them.

Fab blog, I'll come back again.

That is so funny! I realised right away you were talking about absentees, but little ones don't know big words like that. Don't EVER lose your accent OR take on a southern one! lol

That's cute! My son is just starting to not understand me because of my accent, and realise that I talk differently. But there is another mom at the school and she is English, so I am not the only one with an accent now. My boss always tells me he cannot understand a word I am saying and the other day asked me if I had ever taped myself and played it back and been able to understand myself! Stupid Brummie accent that I have!

Hehehehehe. I love pre-schoolers.

I thought of you today. For some reason, when we are out on the bike trail, we call the porta-potties, "the loo." I guess it makes it sound more exotic.

perhaps the absentees are absent from eating too much eggs and cheese? Those eggs n cheese'll do ya in every time. :)
