Today's BWOTD is commonly used daily across the country:
"There's no need to get shirty about it!"
'Shirty' = Irritable
I have no idea where this came from, but I have used it and heard it all my life, and it has absolutely nothing to do with clothing.

ha! oh I am using this word!! I bet I will use it atleast a minimum of ten times, especially working with attorneys. :)
I so haven't said this for yonks, in fact, I completely forgot about it!
Methinks it comes from people pulling your shirt and you getting annoyed at it (I'm writing this with my tongue firmly in my cheek, of course :-D)
Nice phrase, though.
Greetings from London
I need to store this one in my brain for further use.
LOL, I like this one. But maybe irritable with attitude too.
There's a variation to that used quite frequently... change the "r" to a "t" and you'll get the Americanized version.
Americans will think we're saying "sh*tty." Same thing really!
WAAAY back there were those hair shirts that the zealots wore to .. I am not sure why actually but I can imagine anyone wearing one would get 'shirty', dont you?
:-Daryl
I'm feeling a bit shirty today with all of my car issues!
Hi Sarah
Hadn't realised it wasn't used in USA. Think it's used in OZ.
Do you use "narky" in the USA too? Similar meaning.
