My World Tuesday

My second offering for the new and exciting 'Skywatch' team project - My World Tuesday, focuses on another local industry - Agriculture.

Many visitors to Oklahoma expect our main industry to be agriculture and are surprised to find it's not. Oil and Natural Gas production is our leading industry and has been for many years.

But Agriculture, Ranching and Farming are still high on the list and this is easily spotted on any drive through our State. Many of the people I know here are involved in this industry and the Hubsters business is very much on the fringes of it.

On a recent visit to a Ranch and Farming museum this was demonstrated by the huge range of implements and tools on display. Included amongst them was this wall of tractor seats, but who knew there were so many different designs! I wonder if you were judged by others on the design intracacy of your tractor seat once upon a time? Is there an Armani of the tractor seat world somewhere out there, commanding crazy prices on eBay?

But of course being a girly I was seriously drawn to this wonderful and colourful display of seats. Oh the choices, but I think it would be the sage green with the royal blue 'Bradley' logo for me!

At least with those old seats, water from rain or dew would run off quicker.

That's a beautiful display, but don't you love that Americans have a museum for everything.
And here's me thinking that OK was famous for surrey's with fringes on top.

Are there no PADDED tractor seats?? They are interesting -- prehaps even artful -- but they look a bit, erm, uncomfortable. Nice photos, though -- and I agree: Who knew there would be so many types?!

Wonderful! I didn't know that there were so many different seats! Great pictures!
Thanks for your visit.

Thank you for the wonderful tour. This 2nd week of meme really makes us appreciate the many places that we don't usually see or ever had a chance to visit like the one you showed me in this post. Hope you get to have time to check my world too. Another great job and more to come in the coming weeks.

Being a brit girl and not a country lass you can be forgiven for not knowing that the seat of the old tractors being plain metal had to be the most important part of it. Imagine spending a whole day, and sometimes night as well on an uncomfortable, hard, cold tractor seat! That's why there are so many designs and to this day if you can get an old tractor seat it makes for highly comfortable sitting. After all, necessity is the mother of invention!

At first I thought it was some kind of art installation. Thanks for the smile

This is an amazing dis[lay. I never would have guessed there'd be this much variety.

That's a brilliant display. At first I thought the coloured ones were ceramic plates like the ones they have in Portugal with all the holes.

Yes as a fellow Brit and a bit of a "townie" now, who would have thought that tractor seats would be so varied and interesting.

How cool, and yeah, I've heard that tractor seats are a big collector's item... I love the painted ones too...

Thanks for the puckered smooch -- I always get a kick out of your photo.

Nice. When I think of Oklahoma I think of Grandma. Playing in the hot summer with my cousins and trying to catch some shade under the Pecan trees and fig trees. Eating lots of catfish that was swimming in the red river just hours before.

I love those tractor seats. And I noticed elsewhere that you like to read. Got to come back and visit with you again!

Love your post. Really fun display. I grew up in Texas so I am familiar with tornado alley! Stop by and visit my Seattle site and welcome to the US.

My oh my, the World sure is a place filled with the unexpected. Utterly gob smacking!

I wouldn't have expected decorator seats on farm machinery! The display makes an interesting design as well.

Wow! These are beautiful.

Oh. Here's a question for you. A Brit posted on my blog that she would be "chuffed to bits" to receive a papercutting that I did. Is being chuffed to bits a good thing? hehe. I'm guessing that it is, but I have no clue what it means.

What a beautiful art.

Sarah, my Dad would be in his glory at that museum! He has 8 antique tractors. I should tell him to visit Oklahoma the next time he is around that state.

Interesting display and well photographed! My impression of Oklahoma and Texas is cattle and oil. I agree with arija, if you are going to plow all day, you want a comfortable place to sit.
