Someone left me a gift!

Yes seriously, the Hubster went out to the garage this morning and came back to tell me "it looks like someone decided to leave you a Tarantula in that plastic tub outside the doors!"

After a moments panic(me) and thought, we both immediately knew it was our friend Tom and a quick call confirmed it. He couldn't remember if I was fascinated or scared of Tarantula's and so when this one turned up in his Dairy, he decided I'd be interested!

Apparently his female worker at the Dairy almost screamed the place down, when it jumped about a foot and landed on her. I think I'd have died on the spot!

The Hubster warily put his hand in the picture, so you could get an idea of size - pretty big huh, but only 2/3rds grown. Anyway, Tom probably did me a favour, I now know what they look like close-up and maybe it won't be quite so scary if I come across one. And no we didn't kill it, we released it on some pasture land, as they aren't poisonous and do alot of good.

Please tell me you killed the darn thing immediately after this photo was taken. I hate spiders - truly terrified of them. Oh, I know it's irrational but well...

Good to catch up on your news! It's been too long...

later..

Glad you didn't kill it. I had heard that as scary looking as they are, they are not poisonous and as big as they are, they must have to eat a lot of bugs to keep going. Bugs that would eat crops, right?

Love your blog!

I think in your position I would have released it in Montana.

I never could get comfortable about them, even after kids would bring in their 'pet' inside of a mini-aquarium type container. Geesh!

If that had happened here it would be on the 5pm local news!

Glad to hear you didn't kill it--it's big enough to be a puppy so it probably would have felt like killing an animal! I'd have probably passed out if I saw that thing!

Arrrrgh! I have arachniphobia, too. How do you spell that anyway? I can't imagine how I would have reacted. You're a great sport.

This is actually what we are getting Lady K for her first pet....one of these days we will actually act on this. Not this size of a tarantula, but one a wee bit smaller.
Thank you for not killing it. = )

Streuth! If you've friends like this you don't need enemies.
I'd have nightmares forevermore if I saw anything like that still alive. Nearly as big as Aragog in the Harry Potter film.

They might not be poisonous but I bet they bite or give you a nasty suck. Yuk!

Good grief, I would have had a heart attack on the spot! It looks horrendous and I am traumatized now for the rest of the day!

I've heard those suckers can really jump. I'm scared to death of them, quite frankly. They're huge and hairy and scare the crap out of me!!

Awww ... bless its little cotton socks. All fluffy and soft like a puppy. Abeit a puppy with eight legs and more eyes than is strictly necessary.

And no, as you ask, I'm not scared of spiders!

Thanks for not killing it. So many people are terrified of them, and they do kill a lot of bad things out there. It was interesting to see.~~Dee

Oh my Goodness!

I had no idea the horrid things could jump!

I would have died on the spot.

When one of my sons was about 5 ,I walked into the living room and he was standing there hyperventilating, staring at the wall (which was that dark wood paneling) I asked him "what's wrong?" He was so upset he was unable to speak.

After my eyes adjusted I saw that he was staring at a humongous tarantula on the wall.

*cringe*

Thanks for the memories. LOL

Oh you're comments really gave me a good laugh thank you. In a funny way I think it has actually really helped me to view them as harmless. Having said that if I get surprised byone, or god forbid jumped by one, I will be running screaming for the hills!

I WOULD HAVE DIED! I have arachnophobia to the 1 millionth degree! How do you kill something so big?... ok, gross! Getting sick to my stomach just thinking about it. I love the good ole outdoors and all but I think I will stay in Southern California, for my own safety... and theirs!
