Anyone else going to watch the CMA's?

So it's Country Music's biggest night....when ABC is filled to the brim with supersized blonde highlights, hair, boobs, boots, hats, heels, sequins, eyeshadow and a few ego's too!

As a Brit' I find the whole spectacle absolutely compulsive viewing. Until I got here I thought Dolly Parton was a one-off, now I know otherwise, as it seems many of today's female Country stars have boarded her beauty bus. Having seen Carrie Underwood 'live' from within 5ft, I can confirm that apart from the boobs, she is an identikit Dolly! I will add though, in case of any doubt, I adore Dolly she's a total legend.

Can you spot the 'real' Dolly amongst these Country superstars!? ;-)

Before I moved here, I was very much an R&B, Hip-Hop, Motown kinda girl. But living in Okieland you have no choice but to get into Country Music. And so these days I love Sugarland, Josh Turner, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban and Blake Shelton.

If you're a European and reading this you probably think she can't be serious. But trust me you have no comprehension of how huge Country Music is in the USA. It by far out sells all other genres and alot of the 'new' country stars are seriously 'cool' and have the biggest tours. This is not Tammy Wynette and Kenny Rogers (but he's still huge, although unrecognisable after 2 facelifts too many!) ballads, it's hip, modern country music.

I am a paid up member of the Brad Paisley Fan Club, so tonight is a big night in our house, as he hosts the CMA's. He's well known for the practical jokes he plays with co-stars on stage, so watch out for some odd happenings!

Off to eat home-made Cottage Pie and kick back for the fun....

Actually, I do really like Dolly Parton. She is extremely talented as a songwriter and singer.

Kay - I realised this sounded like I don't and I admire her hugely. It just tickles me she is so copied in her look!

I like Dolly Parton, she never takes herself too seriously. Hard to believe country is that popular!

I don't like country music but I like Dolly as a person.

Well, it's hard NOT to like country music, especially if you live just down the road from Music city USA.....
Truthfully, I love it, it has roots back to the Irish folk music I also love !
So, off to partake in the next three hours of listening and watching some of the best of "Country", and I'd not refuse a plate of Shepherd's pie, if it was offered of course :)

I'm not a huge fan of country music, but I will watch the show for the entertainment.

Well, I am proof that you can live in OK and not be that much of a country music fan. One gets enough of it without trying, so to speak ... having said that, I saw Blake Shelton in concert last year and that man is HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT. Five hots. Wait, that might not be enough. He is one good lookin tall drink of water, for sure! And I might disagree about Carrie Underwood -- I think she is still all-American girl, except dolled up a bit (not Dolly'd up) ... she can't help her blonde hair! I think it is Carrie that everyone is copying HER look!

Yep, Dolly's the 3rd one down! I do like her but here in Canada, country music isn't as big as it is in the states. Hope you enjoy the awards show - I'll be watching something else. ;)

Being from Nashville and in the music industry - the CMAs were a huge event in the city and for work. I miss it...I dont think I will watch this year. Not ready to be sad of all the city sights they show during commericals. But hey...theres always next year.

PS: Theres a blog award on my page for you whenever you get around to it. :)

Brit Gal,
You're a Country Girl at Heart!!! In fact growing up in Oklahoma I only listened to country music, and though as an adult having moved half way across the globe I have broadened my horizons, I still love nothing more than Good Ole Country Music!! My husband and I were racing across Germany on the autobahn last week and wanted some toe tapping music - what did we choice Country Music Awards Greatest Hits CD!!! All my European friends laugh at me, but I still love it!
Best,
The Antiques Diva

I need to get one of those sling box thingies that would let me watch stuff like this from England. I miss all of it, thank goodness for the full CD archives and I stock up whenever I'm back in the states. I love Dolly, she transcends generations and her over-the-top bombastic classic country stuff and her bluegrass are charming in different ways. I do admit I probably prefer the latter.

The fave TV show in our house is Reba. We're not quite into line dancing yet, but I'm sure it'll only be a matter of time. We're off to Little Rock for Thanksgiving, so the kids will be saying y'all in a matter of hours!

Sorry, I can't stand country music. And it doesn't matter how long I live here, that's never going to change.

Oh yes, watched it and taped it. I'll watch it again and cut through the commercials...who could not pick the real Dolly out of those dollies? Hope you enjoyed the show! I know I did!

my daughter loves Brad PAisley, but somehow I don't think it's just his music, as "sweet" as his lyrics might be!

I love country music....love Dolly Parton (I remember when she used to do Christmas specials every year!) and I love Carrie Underwood, too! I saw her this past summer. She has an amazing voice!
