Oh Happy Day

All I can say is "Thank you America", you made the right choice. This is a historic moment, America has travelled forward a long way in the past 24 hours.

The interesting thing is, talking to my friends in Europe, Obama was always the popular choice there.

This may do more to improve America's popularity around the world, than anything in my lifetime. I don't think unless you have travelled abroad, you have any idea of the strength of the anti-American feelings, even in allies such as England.

Therefore you cannot realise yet what a momentous step you have taken in electing this man, who has made such an immediate impact on the rest of the world. The BBC conducted a poll in 22 countries, he won in every single one by at least 3 to 1 votes. Many people around the world, will wake up this morning and see America through new hopeful eyes.

Hopefully about this time next year I will be well on the road to becoming a citizen. America taking this huge stride forward today, has made me even more certain of that decision. Today I feel truly honoured to live in this great and 'brave' country.

Now President elect Barack Obama, needs to deliver on the change he has promised us all.

God Bless America

No matter who won I'm just happy to say goodbye to G. W. Bush. Now it's time to get the country back on track and like you said, Obama had better deliver. I think our patience has worn thin.

We have traveled out of the country and I know for a fact that what you say is true. This is such an amazing day. I'm so proud of us.

Ah, well said, Brit Gal.
I lived in Europe 2002-3 so I know what you mean.
Can you hold dual citizenship (like me)? Glad you are feeling good about America today. Much of the world is, too!

It is a momentous day, and finally we can start to move in a positive direction. We have been lost for so long! I'm overjoyed and glad that you're with us!

Agreed, and Europe is very pleased I think.

I am honestly so glad to hear that the world is proud of us. I must say that I haven't felt as proud as I did last night, in a very long time. What a memorable, memorable night. jan

Amen to that. I also wonder whether the rest of the world realises what a truly momentous result this is. Hopefully it can go some way to healing the scars that still remain from a terrible part of America's history.
(I was wondering whether you'd be for McCain what with living down there an' all.)

There is a feeling of hope spreading across America again. And though the road will be hard, hope will pull us out as we bind together to restore our country with Obama's help. It turning the page from old America to the new one that fits the future. I am so happy I cried last night. I hope that all of America (not just the Democrats, but all people here) joins hands to make this nation great again. Now thats an American Dream!

He still has to prove himself to me! But I have an open mind. I just don't get why all the Europeans are so fussed about it all. And I don't believe that McCain was just another Bush. But I do believe that the balance of power needs to shift from time to time and that the American public generally gets it right. And if it isn't right, then four years from now we get to vote all over again.

I swear this title is almost what I put on my post yesterday! I am so happy and even though like you, I am a Brit and always will be at heart, I felt very patriotic and proud last night to be in America. This is my home, this is my son's home and I am filled with pride at the historic events that have taken place, and filled with hope that my son will have a better future.

God Bless America indeed!

Obama is a popular choice in Indonesia too. Many of us love him because he spent his childhood and went to elementary school in Jakarta, but most of all because he embodies the much needed change.

I just hope he can live up to all the expectations we're placing on him, we're all acting like he's the second coming or something! I don't have a vote yet, but if I had one it would have gone to him.

Pam OKC - I think the main reason why the World and not just Europe is so interested is because of the huge impact your country has on the rest of the World. I'm not just talking about the obvious things, like Iraq, but about the million small things that America has a part in. I truly believe that the average American doesn't have much idea about the impact this country has on the world.

I totally agree with your comment to Pam, I don't think many of them realise how the world looks to the USA alot of the time

COMPLETELY agree...and wrote about this myself. It's a fantastic result.

Sadly, your new state of residency and my home state AND previous state of residency didn't agree - at least the majority of OK and TX residents didn't. That's sad.

As did much of the world support Obama so did Hugo Chavez, The Iranian government, Hezbolla, PLO, Al Quaida's number 3 guy, Castro, and so on, so we have to keep that in mind too.

I think Obama is too left for this country but if he governs from the centre he has all the abilities and support behind him to be a great President, but if he decides to go the way for the far left then he will bankrupt this nation further just as it has in every country its taken root.

I delight in again America showing the world what a free, democratic and just country this is. We aren't beholden to any one party as a people and we are indeed not nearly as racist as the world , particularly snobby Europeans like to portray us lot. I hope this serves as shining example that any wo/man, regardless of their race or background can overcome any obstacle, even a wild name, and rise to such great heights! It is truly wonderful. I hope and pray for the best for Obama and his lovely family.
