Black Friday Haul

No not at all what you expected I'm guessing?!

We left home at 6am and headed into Texas, to hit the shopping mecca of Amarillo on Black Friday. But unlike the rest of the shoppers, we were on a very specific and militarily planned attack of specific stores only.

We only ever saw the Mall from a distance, we avoided the craziness of Kohl's et al and stayed along one strip mall where we could get everything we needed.

My main motive for going was PG Tips Tea, as I have been 'tea-less' for over a month and suffering major withdrawal symptoms! For those of you in England thinking "WHAT?". We live 3 hours from my nearest source of PG Tips, so never again take your tea supply for granted my friends! I had 3 mugs in very fast succession upon returning home.

I bought this and all my other Brit' goodies at a fabulous store called 'World Market'. As you can see I will also be knocking back a few curries, washed down with a cold pint (or three) of Guinness - utter bliss! So did any of you have me down as a Guinness lover, I'm betting not?!

We also hit Home Depot for flooring supplies and I ended the day with an hour in Pier One, all very civilised.

I'm a major tea lover but have yet to try PG Tips. Everyone I have ever talked to who had it loved it though, so I'm going to have to try it soon!

Mmmm...Guiness!!

Oh I understand this. Thankfully I'm only a 5 minute drive from my supplier of all things British.

At my World market we can also get Curly Wurlys. Yum!

Oh, fun! We have a World Market down near Cincy, but I've never been. It's huge!

Seriously? Wow. I can (and do) drink my PG daily. And, I get it at my local store. If you ever need any, lemme know, because we have a small British import section. What would I do without my HP Sauce?

I read back in March that the price of tea was likely to rise substantially due bad harvests. So I thought I'd stock up. Then in our local Tesco store I saw they had a two for one offer but the shelf was bare! On their internet site I found the same offer and ordered loads for home delivery. We've still got a lot left. You can't beat a nice cup of tea for perk you up refreshment.

Heck! You need to come up to Canada - those things are easy to find here. I know what you mean about tea...I drink a whole pot myself every day! Except our Red Rose brand (Only in Canada, eh?) is probably too weak for you. My Welsh visitors thought it awful compared to their Welsh tea in which I could stand my spoon up! lol Imagine being without tea! Horrors!

I have been told that that tea is the best ever by another Brit here. I will have to try it once I get an electric kettle..oh and a house might help too.

I have PG Tips, I can get it at my local supermarket. So if you run out again, give me a shout and I'll send you a box. Except I don't know if they have decaff, and it's not loose.

That's a good shop there.

Heinz beans? I thought Heinz was an American company. I always used to miss beans when I went to Spain. I used to be desperate for beans on toast when I got back. Not much you can't get there now, at a price.

I don't drink tea but I know how people miss it. My son loves PG Tips! I can't think about it without seeing those chimp adverts!

I love it all :) Have you ever thought about having your PG Tips shipped to your house in case of emergency???

Ooops I forgot to ask, what's Black Friday? Sounds like some massive tragedy.

Heard on the news that somebody was killed in a shopping stampede in Long Island. I thought there was a recession on. I can't see evidence here either, the shops are crammed.

I thought about queuing for Take That tickets but I decided against it. It was a combination of thinking it's time to grow old a bit more gracefully and fear of being trampled in the rush.

Now I just might go for the Shadows and Cliff Richard's final farewell tour. (Think they had one about 4 years ago too!)
Not so likely to be trampled but might die of a heart attack at the price of about £65!

I'm jealous !
Not too long ago I had to order all my English food online, now one of the loacal supermarket's has an import section.
Not the varied variety, more the "staples", even PG Tips, and the wonderful Yorkshire Gold tea.
After reading this, I'm off to stock up....who knows there just may be a tea shortage.

Not a black friday shopper, I mostly take trips after thanksgiving, but not this year. I did stay away from the mall though. And oh, I love world market too.

Expat mum - ours had Curly Wurlys too, but I plumped for Turkish Delight this time....last time it was CW's!

AFF - Oh I am a total HP Sauce addict too and so is the Hubster now, but we can get that here.

Willow - seriously you would love this store.

Troy - I know who to ask next time I run out then!

Winifred - Black Friday is a huge sales day here in the stores. 65 quid is a little excessive!

PG Tips can't you buy on-line....Turkish delight, haven't had one of those in years. Had a few cold cans of Guinness at the weekend. Went down a treat still not as nice as the stuff we drank in Dublin last year though.

**Sigh** I wish we had one of those markets here. I think they have one in Wichita too. We can get PG Tips at Homeland, which keeps John happy. Maybe we should check into buying a franchise, eh?

Curry .. ah I love curry and washing it down with a cold brew .. nice!

Can you order online?

Ooooh! We have World Market, too, but unfortunately, it's waaaaay over on the other side of town (and traffic is usually awful). Still, when I go, I stock up on the Chicken Tikka Misala sauce, and the Spotted Dick in the can! And lots of unrelated candy items . . . :)

It looks like you got yourself a good stash there, Sarah. World Market is a good store, there was one in the town where I used to live in California.

You can keep the Guinness though, I prefer a Boddies (Boddingtons), the cream of Manchester. :-)

Oh my! You were out of PG Tips for a month?!? How did you survive? The nearest World Market to me is over 2 hours away so I completely understand! However, I order my teas online, but I confess I am not a serious PG Tips drinker like you Brits!

You can buy anything your heart desires on line and never have to suffer traffic jams and packed malls again.

I love Digestives and was quite worried when I moved to my neck of the woods, that I wouldn't be able to find them. Thankfully, I can buy them at Meijer's which is only 25 minutes away.

Did you know that my e-mail name comes from a nickname I earned while studying over in Britain? I used to LOVE the Yorkie bar and one of the profs began calling me Yorkie (he still does to this day!).
