Mr. Blue Sky....please buzz off!

This is what we tend to see 85% of the year at least when we look skywards here, BLUE SKY. Now at first, coming from England - 'ye olde land of rain aplenty', I loved waking up to blue skies almost everyday of the year. And I still do generally, you just can't beat it, especially when you've been used to alot more overcast grey days in a prior life.

When I emigrated here, I actually brought my 3 umbrella's with me (2 small & 1 huge) - WHAT WAS I THINKING??!! In the more than 3 years I have lived here, I think I have used one of them one time and now they just gather dust. Even when it does rain (which is rare as rocking horse doodoo) or snow (more likely it seems!), you can usually still guarantee the sun will appear during the day and blue sky will pop out again! We never just get dull, overcast grey days for any length of time and I don't think Okies generally have a clue as to what S.A.D. is!

As I said, I'm not complaining, I much prefer seeing the sun most days of my life as it definitely lifts ones mood. But right now we are DESPERATE for rain here, really badly desperate. To the point where it's now getting scary with the wildfires, and there I was worrying a tornado might take our home away when I moved here.

Yesterday there were wildfires all over NW Okieland, big ones that made the state TV channels and not too far from us. In fact a small one started just over a mile or so from our home, luckily it was spotted and quickly extinguished. But in a first for us, the Hubster came home in the middle of the day to put on our garden sprinkler system!! I knew then he was a little worried too and that's also rare as rocking horse doodoo for my Mr Calm, even in the face of tornado sirens this man is laidback!

But it was 77 degrees here, with winds gusting up to 60mph for a few hours and that's not at all good when you are as dry as we are and a fire starts. Once again I have to applaud our small rural volunteer fire departments, I do not have enough good adjectives for these brave men and women.

We have no possible rain in our forecast for the next 6 days, although it is going to be cooler. But this is one English woman who is actually dearly wishing and praying for some rain, in fact about a week of rain would be my dream right now! So if you have the rain, please send it to Okieland ASAP.

Oklahoma needs rain and not wind sweepin' down the plain!

Sarah, I wish I could send you the rain we are having right now. NC has had a terrible drought over the last few years and we had quite a few wild fires in the mountains too. I live in the middle of the state (the Piedmont) and we even had some fires start here. I'm sending rain vibes your way!!

It's a little different here in eastern Oklahoma. In late winter and in spring we often get two or three days in a row when we don't see any blue sky at all but right now we could use some rain too. We just had a few mostly cloudy days and I thought it was going to rain but we didn't get a single drop.

Well, it's a snowin here today and you are more than welcome to it. In fact, I insist!

Are you sure you're doing the rain dances correctly?

Well I'm not doing them nekkid if that's what you mean Rob!!?

I would so gladly send you rain ... we're due for more snow ... keeping digits crossed those fires stay away and wherever they are I hope they get them under control ASAP ...

I'm not sure one need go quite that far. It's all in the hips I'm sure and the rhythm, so get the Hubster bangin' on them drums!

Jokes aside, I do hope the fires are kept at bay until some good rains arrive.

I know how you feel. Nevada is one of the driest states and we always have blue skies. They always make me sad. I was happiest in Oregon where it rains all the time. I guess I am the opposite of SADD. I hope you get rain soon! (Try not to dry out too much. The people in Portland actually get cranky when it is dry too long, as in the summer.)

Remember in 2005 (I think) when the entire state seemed to be on fire for weeks on end? It was so terrible. I really hope you get some rain soon! I do miss Oklahoma, but the weather was damn crazy there!

You can always send your umbrellas back to those of us in the UK dealing with constant drizzle! I can even offer my tornado kit in exchange :-)

Hope the wildfire risk diminishes, it's been terrible what's been going on in Australia.

you know as it doesn't rain her too often either except for brief time in Spring, I actually like it too now as well--and it's not so bloody cold!

Didn't you have a twister or two lately ? Or did I dream that ?

I do love a good series of cloudy, rainy days...perfect excuse to curl up with a good book and a mug of tea.

Problem is, once the rain starts, God wanders off and leaves the water running, and we get flooded out.

What I really yearn for in Oklahoma though, is snow...REAL snow, and not the mix of ice & snow that we've had the last few winters. We haven't had a really good winter snow in central Oklahoma in almost 30 years.

I guess the problem with too many blue skies is the lack of rain. Hmmm. Maybe I should stop complaining about the amount of rain and snow we get in Ontario!

We got a little rain this past week, hope you get some too.

Unfortunately you're not alone. We had some rain and hail today (along with tornado sirens going off) but we're still quite dry for the third year. Hopefully rain will get to Oklahoma on its way to Tennessee.

Sarah, I am so sorry to hear that Oklahoma is in such a drought. We had a terrible drought here in TN in 2007 and part of '08. I remember literally praying for rain every single day. It was horrible--so I'm sorry to hear that you all have the same problem now.

This year we are not in a drought --but are running about normal right now. We are so afraid that that will change. I hope not!!!!

Sorry Sarah..
Hugs,
Betsy

I have only been in Oklahoma once, when I was passing through last April on my way from Georgia to my new life in Arizona. It was dry and dusty then. Hope you get some rain soon.

Sarah;

We we moved to california from illinois...we missed the rain too. My oldest son loved to read but when it was sunny he just had to go out and play with his friends. On one of the first rainy days in the high desert where we lived it rained and it rained all afternoon...My son was in heaven...and every time it rains anywhere that we are , we call it a "bobby day"
Hope you get some unexpected rain showers!

Rain here today... I shooed it your way. I long for rainy days, I think it has something to do with being raised on an island, always raining, and usually enjoyable not extreme.

Peggy, it's not unusual for me to just walk outside and literally soak it up when it finally rains here - it's that rare!

Well it chucked it down here last week, and the week before we had ice and snow. But all in all it's been a pretty dry winter.

I hope you get some rain soon, wild fires and high winds are not a good combination. :-( Take care.

Hello! And THANK YOU for your comments over on my post and for stopping by. Please come back anytime. Got a pretty good bear-in-the-car story going right now.

We have been having huge rains in California so, hopefully, they will work their way over to you and bring a good gully washer!

If I could I would sure send you over some of ours. It's rainy season over here in Hawaii. However, we still have a water shortage because the water just runs off. We have waaaay too much concrete on Oahu. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hello from grey Leeds! We DREAM about longing for rain! No, seriously I do understand it's a real problem - - it's just that blue skies like that are SUCH a rare and beautiful thing here.
