Today's BWOTD is an everyday word used by most people:"I am totally skint this month"'Skint' = Poor/Broke With the current state of the economy worldwide, I suspect lots of us could make good use of this particular Brit' word!
I love these BWOTD posts! When we had been in London about a month some of the office guys stopped outside my door & had this conversation: "I could really go for a Fag! I've been humping boxes all day!"
I was a bit taken aback & it took me awhile to work up the courage to ask someone what they could possibly have meant!
Oh, yeah, we are so skint because we are still waiting after 2 months for his unemployment check to come. They keep saying he should get it soon. They made mistakes they are trying to correct.
Oh yes. In much use at the moment. I am trying to teach the difference between Brummie and Black Country here in return for Manx words. I think I'll get Bostin officially classed as A Manx word soon.
I think just about everybosy will be skint before long. Maybe Barack and Gordon will come up with some bright ideas. One would be giving those obnoxious greedy prats in the banks a good kicking where it hurts, their pockets.

This is one of those words that sounds like it means. Or means like it sounds. It's perfect.
If this economy keeps going to pot, we're all going to be skint in this country.... And that's not funny!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

"Skint" I thought that was a USA 1930's depression or backwoods, redneck, hillbilly word with the same meaning! Too funny, Sarah. Love your words!
