My World

Fort Supply Lake in NW Okieland is a man-made 1800 acre lake offering many recreational facilities. The lake is situated a couple of miles from Fort Supply town, most famous for being the winter campsite of Colonel George Custer and his soldiers.

It provides excellent fishing opportunities for a variety of species including, crappie, walleye, white bass, hybrid bass, channel catfish and flathead catfish. There are approximately 6000 acres of public hunting land managed by the Corps of Engineers and the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. The major attraction to hunters are bobwhite quail and deer but other hunting opportunities include wild turkey, pheasant, dove and waterfowl. Having said that, we are neither fishers or hunters!

It's a major attraction for campers, due to the numerous campsites located on the waters edge providing easy access to the lake. Several boat ramps are available to serve the recreational boater. There are also quite a few Geocaches around the lake, that we are yet to hunt. It's a beautiful place to visit at anytime of the year.

Beautiful pics!
Camping out there must be fun, not keen on hunting but fishing yes!

Looks like a great place to visit even if one doesn't hunt or fish. I have a feeling we'll see more of this spot in some geocache updates!

It provides excellent photography opportunities as well. Big skies and the water looks so brilliant in the last photo.

what a big manmade lake is that:) I'd be more on the boating and exploring than hunting and fishing.

These are really terrific photos. The first two with those wispy clouds are really interesting.

Amazing place. Makes me wonder who came up with the idea to build a lake there? And how did all the fish get there?
I agree with Chrome, it really offers some wonderful photoshoots!

Historical and a wildlife haven . My kind of place. I could spend all day there with the camera. You captured the light on the water beautifully.

Really great photos! Looks like a really fun place to camp and to fish. The man made lakes in Oklahoma and Texas always amazed me -- and I'm originally from Texas! Great post! thanks!

Looks like a really great place.

Was it built purely for recreation?

Sarah, I think my parents have stopped by this lake on one of their trips. It is beautiful!

Never heard of a crappie before, new one on me. Looks lovely though. Going back to yesterdays Brit word.... are you familiar with the term 'boracic'? It's pretty widespread throughout the UK, I think....even in Scotland. Comes from Cockney rhyming slang.... boracic lint....skint. As in ... 'Fancy a pint?....'Nah, I'm totally boracic'

Fort Supply Lake looks like a wonderful place to visit, even if a person is not a hunter or fisherman. It should be a great place for geocaching.

Thanks for your good wishes on my post, I was lucky.

A number of flood control dams have been built in our region creating some lovely new lakes like this. They quickly become favourite spots for camping and fishing. This is a lovely looking spot.

I like your lake. Beautiful.

Beautiful lake, Sarah. Is that lake 'down' now due to the drought? I'll bet it is... When we had our drought in 2007 here, the lakes were WAY down... So SAD. Hope you get rain soon.
Hugs,
Betsy

Nice photos of your world. The water does look a bit brown. Is it due to the winter weather? I would love to camp there.

Looks like a great lake! And appears to be down a little with the lack of rain. The snow here just gave a good excuse to take some pitures. Other parts of the east coast had more snow and problems dealing with it. I put another post up to show one of our bigger snows.

Would be great to camp there, and enjoy the boating and fishing.

That must have been a huge project. Do you imagine one day someone looked out and said "Why don't we put a lake here?"
