My favourite summer spot

What do you do with your storm cellar on hot summer days?

Why you throw up a hammock on top of course!

Yes this is my absolute fave place to spend summer days in our garden. In the shade of the Silver Maple, kicking back in the hammock listening to birdsong and the breeze in the trees.

Being in a raised position and at one end of the garden, I get to enjoy lovely views of 'our Kingdom' as the Hubster calls it. The Maple overhead means it is in deep shade for most of the day and it's easy to doze and enjoy the peace and quiet from here.

The thing is, I'm not the only one who appreciates its fine positioning or comfort, Sukie almost beats me into it most days and soon finds the best seat in the house! I am often tickled wondering if she ever tries to get into it alone and finds herself unexpectedly on the down side? My mum was not keen at all after she landed beneath getting into it last year. And no amount of convincing by me would get her to try again sadly!

But at times my hideaway gets really crowded when the Hubster decides to join us too! But unlike Sukes & I who happily doze in companiable silence, he likes to look around constantly and engage me in conversation, but I enjoy his company nevertheless.

About the only thing to do in the hammock apart from read or doze, is spot the occasional military flyover. They are high enough we don't hear them, but they pass over our area pretty regularly and the Hubster enjoys spotting them.

So this is invariably where you'll find me on hot summer days, sometimes it's just a really hard life here in Okieland!

Whenever you've mentioned the storm cellar I've always imagined a basement under the house - I didn't realize it was that prominent a feature!

My DH loves his hammock too and blogged about it last week. Sadly, because it's set up in the shade, I can't enjoy it because the bugs would eat me alive. For some reason they don't bother him!

Looks like a really nice place to spend the afternoon. The cat thinks so, that's obvious.

A truly perfect place to laze on a Summer's day.
Did you have the tornado shelter installed, or is it just a cellar for storing canned goods, and using in the event of a tornado ?
Since this area is on the "hot" list for tornado touchdowns, folks around these here parts, are having them installed, left right and center...They cost about five thousand dollars, and look similar to a septic tank, but room enough for twelve people, their provisions, and a pony :) No not really, just according to "Our Hyacinth"...:)

Jo, it was here when we bought the house. The previous owners had it built into under the new garage back in the 80's. It's actually bigger than it looks here as it extends somewhat under the garage. So yes we also use it for storage and have shelving and chairs down there.

The window has always tickled me, I reckon it's so you can watch your house blow by, god forbid!

Lovely, Sarah! I don't have a hammock, but I love to sit in my patio and drink in the beauty of my flowers and palm trees.

Looks like a delightfully cool place to spend summer days, even if you have to share it.

It looks like you have one of the prime spots in Oklahoma. A hammock right on top of tornado shelter.

Looks so relaxing. We havnt got no where to put one here at Andrews. But when we move and have our own graden I am going to buy one for sure. Kinda romantic laying there with the hubby xxx

The hammock is my fav spot too. I have one at the cabin and in town. Unfortunately the one in town I've done a few acrobatic feats on and landed face first on a cobblestone patio. OUCH! When I was pregnant the first time about 30 years ago I watched my big strong daddy sit in one he just put up for Momma and he flipped feet over head. It was the funniest thing I ever saw. Laughed till I thought I would go into labor.

Now that's a most inviting spot for a bit of relaxing and contemplating nothing much in particular. Dead jealous, me!

One thing I always remember with hot Okie summers is tall glasses of very bright coolaid. Ahhh.... on ice. I think I would have expired away without them.
