Winter is upon us

This morning we woke up to our first wintery precipitation of this season. A lovely mix of light snow and freezing drizzle, with a temperature of 23(-5C), a wind chill of 18(-8C) and it's expected to blow at 30mph later. We were right on the south edge of the huge winter storm hitting the Plains and Mid-West overnight.

Personally I'd have taken a foot of snow and a snow day! But unlike the UK where 2 inches brings the whole country to a grinding halt, here you can just about guarantee they'll even get 24 inches cleared and the roads open within 24 hours. I saw it with my own disbelieving eyes when we got 24 inches on March 30 this year!

Yesterday it was freezing all day here, with the temperature hovering around 21(-6C) most of the day. I made the mistake of leaving home without my toasty snow boots and had to drive home at noon to get them, before my feet froze off.

One of the differences that strikes me most between here and home, is that we can have temps so far below freezing and yet, like yesterday, there is no ice or frost. I know this is because we are usually very dry here, but it still seems very odd coming from England.

If you're in the main path of the big storm, stay safe and warm indoors with lots of hot tea today.

I think Wednesday is supposed to be worse. But I came to work dressed for the conditions .... any excuse really to wear sneakers.

Grey and incessant drizzle doesn't count as a storm, but can I still have lots of hot tea?

Colorado is exactly the amse way as it is so dry. Very littel ice or scraping. We had a massive dump of almost a foot of snow adn yet I could practically blow it off my windows. One sweep of my arm and it was all off. I love that.

BUT brrr...it is cold, still, doesn't FEEL as cold as England as its so wet tehre. Yesterday it was -8F and with wind chill -18F yet it really wasnt too bad.

Finally, last but not least, I AM SOO excited you are joining in the art co-op fun with Creative Tuesdays. Anything you can contribute is marvelous. Its all about doing it together to encourage one another to be more creative. Can't wait to see what you do. How very fun.

I'm still enjoying checking in every now and then and seeing where you are with your teas but is it up to date?!

Oh take care Sarah. No snow or ice forecast here for the next few days. Think we've been affected by global warming. Most temperatures are above freezing even at night.

We always used to have snow in November but we haven't even had a really hard frost yet. I'm not complaining!

Please keep your snow in northwest OK. We don't need it here in Tulsa.

Brrrr..... It blew so hard here last night I thought the trailer was going to roll. Got our first snow but it looks more like little ice balls. Dress warm.

We ran out of salt/grit for the roads and paths in my corner of England last year because the previous (several) warm winters had lulled everyone into a false sense of security!! I think this year local government is well-prepared for the "big freeze" but it's just not happening - 12 degrees C today and sunny! Minus 8 sounds horrible - stay warm!

Sorry to get off track, but where do you get the snow for your blog?

P.S. We had snow here last night also, but ours was wet and heavy.
