A highly appropriate BWOTD for current times:
"They're definitely in stook"In stook (said: shtook) = in financial trouble.
I tried to research where this originates from, but it's a pure slang term and in reality means a bundle, heap or sheath of grain! I guess it could have developed from being in a bundle/heap of trouble.

I'm so glad you are blogging regularly again. I miss bwotd!
I believe it is a yiddish word 'shtuk' and basically means 'in trouble'. I always knew my background would come in useful one day!
I was going to say the same thing as NorthWestLondgonGirl. Sounds yiddish, and yiddish is always fun.
I dont ever recall hearing this as a Yiddish term .. sore-us (phonetically spelled) is the word in Yiddish for trouble .. at least it was the word my grandmother used
Oh, I like this one. Fun!
