My World

Beaver in the panhandle of Okieland is full of surprises. Including the fact they host the annual World Cow-Chip Throwing Championship, an event I plan to get to in 2010, can you just imagine the photo opportunities!

They're not at all shy about their claim to fame, this Beaver relocates around town throughout the year to advertise the fact.

Beaver is also home to a State Park consisting of some large and very popular sand dunes.

Not really a sight you expect to come across out here!

Adventurous off-roaders are attracted here in droves, even on a sunny mid-winter day.

Although I have to say, I was slightly dubious about the possible 'additional services' offered by the towns main motel, after seeing this advertisement!

To see some great sights around the globe or join in the fun, go to My World Tuesday

You have to have just the right climate to be Cow Chip Capital, I was in Alabama a few years ago for a festival exchange between Guymon and Foley, AL and one of the highlights was supposed to be a chip-throwing contest between officials of the two towns. Seems there's a bit more humidity there. The ammunition was un-dehydrated! The guys gamely tossed the chips but skipped the winner-loser handshake afterwards.

Cow chip throwing? Is that the same as cow chip bingo?

Love the sunshine :)

What a fun sequence. The hotel sign totally cracked me up.

Additional service? The mind boggles...

What do you do when you throw cow chips! Are they like bovine pommes frites? ;-)

Oh My ----I don't want to miss your photos from the Cow-Chip-Throwing Contest. Should be a total HOOT...

Great pictures... During this time of year, when it is so icy/snowy, drab, dark and dreary here---I love seeing pictures of your area with those beautiful skies!!!

Hugs,
Betsy

Oh I had a great comment about Big Boy Motel, but for the sake of this being a family site, I zipped it. I've always wanted to go to that event too.

Yes! You must attend the cow-chip throwing contest. Sounds like fantastic blogging material...
I might be a bit leery of that motel, too. The sand dunes look fun, though.

What a fascinating place that must be! I'd definitely be back for the cow-chip throwing (whatever that turns out to be in a place called Beaver)...
