My World - Tornado Damage

A few weeks ago I reported on a tornadic storm that went southwest of us by about 70 miles. It put down a tornado that stayed on the ground on and off for about 40 minutes and it hit the outskirts of Hammon.

Last weekend we were in Hammon for a festival and as we drove down the highway I suddenly spotted this home. My reaction "Oh my god! What happened to that house?!"

The Hubster immediately realised it was on the track of the tornado and had taken a direct hit, it was quite a sight and more than a little sobering when you live here.

You can see from the pattern of the glass left in the windows, how it was just blown outwards. But most amazing of all, you can tell the bricks were literally individually sucked off the timber frame!

And then there's that tree stump on the right that was just snapped off. Yet the satellite dish appears to be unharmed, despite all the bricks from the wall just behind it having completely gone! This clearly demonstrates the craziness that is a tornado and this is 'my world' I chose to live in!

So very sad.
I've seen tornado damage first hand, miles of it...it has to be the MOST devasting weather disaster, other than a hurricane.
We are in the worst of times here in Middle Tennessee, the Cumberland River on the banks of Nashville, has crested at 51ft and flooded most of the downtown district.
The famous Opryland Hotel, is evacuated, and is sitting under six feet of water.
Such a sad state, when people have to pick up the pieces of what is left of their lives.
Thanks for sharing your awesome pictures.

I too have seen tornado damage in Texas when I was growing up. There was one town, Sweetwater, Texas that was almost completely destroyed and seeing the extreme damage that they can do is devastating. Your pictures are right on! Terrific! Hope you have a great week!

Haven't experienced a tornado but when I see one covered on tv, it scares the heck out of me. So sorry for the people who gets devastated.

TERRIBLE!!! How sad!!! Hawaii doesn't have hurricanes very often and I personally have not experienced its destruction directly on our home. Knock on wood.

As for earthquakes, we had a big one in 2006, which didn't damage our home at all. Lucky us!!!

Certainly a sight that reminds you just how insignificant we are against the might of nature. Sobering indeed.

Oh goodness! Now that's really scary! I think there's been a few tornados in Hawaii also but they were very mild. Weather is so crazy these days.

Bricks sucked off a wall? Insane!

That is a sobering sight. I can't imagine that kind of windpower. Do houses usually have basements in Hurricane Alley?

I've always heard that tornadoes can do crazy things and your pictures do a wonderful job of showing that.. I've been through a couple of hurricanes and I think I would rather confront them than a tornado.
