Home is where the heart is...

I am now home in Okieland and what my trip back to England taught me is, home is most definitely where the heart is and my heart is with the Hubster here.

I spent Christmas at my dad's on the edge of the Peak District in Derbyshire, a truly beautiful area of England. The snow was bad there too, but with the rolling fields and dry stone walls abounding, it just made it all even more picturesque.

My dad's dog Ellie had a smart coat to go out for her walk in and it was definitely needed!

This was the depth of the ice on one field we traversed across very carefully!

It was nice to go back for a visit but I will never feel like England is home again, I am certain of that. As we came in to land in Chicago they showed a 'welcome to America' video for visitors and it just lifted my heart with pride and happiness to be back on American soil.

And now I am back to school which has been crazy the first week back, and life has returned to it's normal busy but happy routine.

Happy New Year to y'all!

I kept checking to see if you had posted, and now I'm happy to hear from you once again.
Unless you have been through it, sharing a love of two countries is the most heartwrenching experience, and at the same time the most heartwarming.
I understand completely, I have always said "Whenever I hang my hat" is home.
Nice you are back safely in the fold, and I just know that 'hubster' and the kitty cats are happy to have you back :)
Hugs,
Jo

Welcome back, Sarah! I'm glad you're back with Hubster. I know he must have been missing you. Still, you sure do come from a beautiful part of England.

I do know what you mean about where home is. I came to feel that Chicago was my home after 35 years. I love being in Hawaii since I was born and raised here, but so many of my dear friends, my daughter, granddaughter and son-in-law are in Chicago. Whenever I get back there, it's hard to leave.

So glad you got to visit with your folks, but gladder still that you are home again! Love that look of Ellie, she is a sweetie! We had 4 inches of snow on Christmas day, never had snow here on Christmas day as far as I know...welcome Home!

You landed in Chicago and didn't come and see me? (Just kidding.)

It's funny but I'm the opposite. Although my own family is here in the States, I always breathe a sigh of relief when I land back on English soil. And my skin is a lot happier too!

Welcome back Sarah. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. I don't feel quite the same way as you do. I feel that both places are home. I haven't 'crossed the line' yet. You don't mention any children you left in England? Perhaps that is the difference.
Let's here some more about your trip as the days progress.
Must be hard going back to work after all the excitement.
Blessings, Star

Beautiful pictures! Interesting that you now feel more American. I've lived in US for ten years and I suppose will always feel British even though I don't think England is perfect or great or whatever. But I suppose I don't feel so much like a foreigner in the US as I used to!
