The new American Idol is.....

Our money and more importantly our votes are with David Archuleta after he totally blew David Cook out of the water tonight.
Let me deal with David Cook first because right now I am pretty frustrated/annoyed with him. He has just never learned that to win you can't be self-indulgent, you need to pick well known and popular songs to get the votes from the fence sitters like us! The moment he said what his third choice of song was (before he'd sung a note) and we'd never heard of it, we knew exactly what Simon Cowell would say and that he'd lost the competition. What was he thinking! He could have picked a Bon Jovi, Queen, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Coldplay, Lynard Skynard song, or any one of thousands of well-known rock songs that we all love! He only has himself to blame and when you're up against someone as great as David A he should have gone for it and he just didn't. I am sorry but when you're given 3 songs then 2 of them should have been showstoppers we all knew, end of story.

David A on the other hand totally changed our decision beforehand to vote for David C. 'Don't let the sun go down on me' was the performance of the season and gave me chills. What a superb choice of song for him and he just blew us away and David C! The second song was just okay but he sang it superbly again. Then he really nailed down the coffin on David C by pulling out one of the greatest and best loved songs written and knocked it out of the ballpark.

I have loved both from the start and been really torn, they are both stars of the future. But tonight David A showed his better understanding of what you need to do to win and he sang his socks off. The judges knew it by the end, the audience did and even Ryan seemed to agree. I just hope Ryan has an arm around him when he says "the American Idol is David Archuleta", because that boy is going to hit the deck for sure tomorrow night.

Just 17 years old and already THAT good...kinda scary!

>*UPDATE* Well DC may not have blown it after all - dialidol.com has him winning clearly right now and they've predicted it correctly the past 2 seasons! It's gonna be close, I'm glad for once I like them both and will be happy either way.

oh yeah oh yeah, he won the night for sure! as bad as i hate it! but maybe *** IT IS STRATEGY*** for DC .... does he not want to win the whole enchilada and go the way of daughtry? could be. because he definitely should have brought more tonight. not saying he did bad, but he wasn't in it to win it tonight, the way DA was. And superb choice to go second and end the night. Best song of the season: Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me. But i'm not calling in -- it might skew the results ;)

SARAH, i've been thinking about it since putting up my posting and have decided that DC is happy either way it goes and that was his attitude from the beginning of the show -- "here to have a good time" ... so he did what he wanted to do instead of what it took to win. and if that is the case, i can totally respect it. i think he could have taken the lead if he had set out to do it. i did know the song by collective soul and love it lots (The World I Know) ...

maybe the greater gift was letting DA shine even brighter?

but DA's song choices were perfection, especially the first one. They were all strategic and showcased his voice the best. and no one can take that from him -- it was his night ...did you notice how the audience spontaneously stood up in the middle of the one song? i love moments like that!

Pam I agree with you about DC's attitude, I also think he's just happy to be where he is right now.

I think he also knows he's up against a formidable 'teen' vote and DA is amazingly talented and mature for his age. They are both winners in my book but it was DA's night.

On another issue though, the Hubster was telling me all about DA's dad being banned from the show and why. Apparently he told DA to sing the lyrics of another song in one of his songs and the show did not have the rights to the lyrics. DA's dad supposedly told him 'do it, or else and remember you have to come home to me and you know what that means'. So he did it, the producers were furious and had to pay up for the lyrics, it came out that DA is pretty much abused mentally (if not physically) by his Dad and so they banned him from the finale.

This explains an awful lot about DA's lack of confidence, no ego and terror at times. He has a very dominant dad and lives in fear alot of the time. He also has 5 younger siblings at home his dad has apparently used to effectively manipulate him. So I really hope he wins now, because that will guarantee he gets out of that bad situation as the AI machine will protect him, especially Simon and maybe in time he can do the same for his siblings.

yes, i heard about all that ... although somewhere i read that they were downplaying it and that the dad was only banned from his practice sessions. his squeaky little speaking voice tonight reminded me of michael jackson, of all people, and then i though hmmmmmmm, about the dad ....

yes, i think AI had to pay tens of thousand for use of that lyric if i remember the article correctly. and DA does act like he is afraid to speak freely. i hope if it is true that he becomes an emancipated minor and makes his own decisions. surely the AI machine can get him some good attorneys!
