Reunited with my sisters

Well my Sorority sisters actually after our summer break. Just a few months after I emigrated here in January 06, I was asked by a local friend if I would like to join her sorority. She belonged to a chapter of the worldwide women's friendship organisation, Beta Sigma Phi.

After attending as a guest and hitting it off with the other ladies, I gladly accepted and became one of the sisters of Xi Gamma Lambda. It was another great way for me to make friends and establish a female support network, something every woman needs I think.

It has now been over two years since I joined and not only have I made good friends for life, but it has also helped me become part of the community. Every year we raise money for good causes and scholarships in our community, by producing and selling the adverts for the High School Football Program. Only this is not just any old High School Football team, ours have been State Champions in Class C for the past 5 years!

And little did I know when I joined the sorority, but although I live in the next town, I now work for that very same school. I also work with two of my sorority sisters everyday and the brother of another. So joining Xi Gamma Lambda was a great way to help me establish relationships which now help me integrate daily.

We are a fun group of ladies, there is always much laughter when we get together, lots of gossip and endless caring support in trying times. We meet fortnightly (twice a month) 9 months a year and celebrate Halloween, Christmas, Valentine and Summer with parties. The picture above was taken during last years "Dress Pink for Breast Cancer" Halloween Party. The winner had 27 pink items on her, after counting undies, jewelry, purse contents etc!

They tease me unmercifully about my accent, unwittingly impersonate me when they talk to others about me - apparently, and I give them a taste of Europe and free entertainment. But they have also all blessed me with the best free gift you can give to anyone - friendship to an outsider.

Joining Beta Sigma Phi has been great for me and if you are new to an area or lacking in female friends, I highly recommend finding your local chapter and joining in the fun and support.

Aren't ya'll all so adorable! I have a friend who belongs to that sorority (I think it is that one anyway, here in okc) and she has really enjoyed it. Too much commitment for me, however. Aren't I awful that twice-a-month sounds like too much work!!! Good for you and this photo is a hoot.
