If you're squeamish you may not want to read this.
Last night I had my sorority here and after our meeting they wanted to test out a piece of exercise equipment I have. It's heavy and you need to drag it, but I wasn't concentrating and yanked it hard up against my big toe, tearing off 2/3rds of the nail!! OWWWWW and alot of blood was the result.
Luckily for me we have a Vet and Director of Nursing in our sorority and so I was in good hands. I was left with the nurse while the other 5 ransacked my cupboards for supplies and then my hanging toe nail was pulled off really fast, as I was told not to look. A quick dose of peroxide, neosporin, tylenol and a pressure bandage were all applied. I then felt a bit queasy for awhile and it stung alot.
I have been warned it is going to be throbbing badly today and to keep it raised. Not sure how I am going to manage that at work.

Gruesome follow-up piccies may follow!
**9:40am Update** - have had to leave work as walking is making it bleed through the bandage. Off to my Doctor to get it re-dressed and then a day with it up at home!
**1pm Update** - back home, rebandaged, still oozing, now got to keep it raised the rest of the day. Checkup next week, when I may be referred to get remaining nail removed - EWW! Oh and now the owner of much more comprehensive First Aid supplies like tape, non-stick gauze pads etc. A lesson learned!

You poor thing! I hope it feels better today (than you expect).
Ouch! Hope it feels better soon. What kind of shoes will you wear?
CROCS of course Lynne!! I have some fully enclosed ones with a wider toe area and think they may be perfect.
It has not started throbbing yet, but then it's been up in bed al night.
Bonnie was banished to her room in case she fancied attacking the strangely wrapped toe. Hubster said I made alot of noise all night, in fact at one point Cal-JO lay on my stomach, he thinks to comfort me.
I have a pronounced limp and it still stings, so I am expecting an uncomfortable day at the very least!
Owwww!!! Looks like it's going to be a flip flop day.
Ouch!

Visiting from SITS...ouch on your toe! Great blog!

Oh my goodness--OUCH! Hope you feel better soon!
Oh ... I empathize ... I did that to the second toe .. and the pain was not proportionate to the size of the toe
Feel better soon ... and I think I will need to send you some fun toe bandages ..

Ooooww you poor thing. Sorry, but a tad squeamish, so I couldn't read your post except enough to know you are in pain. Wishing you better soon.
The upside is that you will save a bit on toe nail polish! (Feeble attempt at humour I know)
Rob LOL!
Ow ow ow, poor darling you! I hope you are up and around and kicking some bootie soon.

Oh how things can change in the blink of an eye!! And toes are not often the focal point of life! But I'm sure yours is!!
Hope it all recoups quickly.

Umm... OUCH!!!
Can't say that sounds very good at all! I hope you have quick healing!
Oh my gosh! I don't blog for just a few days and this happens. Sheesh!
Poor Sarah. I'm so sorry. Art had to have his fingernail removed, too, when he had an accident with a grinder a couple of years ago. He had to soak his finger in epsom salts every night and redress his fingernail. They put a foil in place of the nail to make sure the nail would come in straight. It did. His finger is perfectly fine now. Oh, I'm so sorry you have to go through this.
That sounds very painful. However, I am anxiously awaiting the followup gruesome pics. (Used to work in an ER)
Oh that gave me the heebie jeebies! I hope it feels better soon..... real, real soon!
