School Snake!

Yep it happened today, I got the call I have been dreading in the office "Get help, we've got a snake on the sidewalk back here"! My response was "well who do I call we don't have any men?" I was immediately reminded we do and so I called the kitchen for help.

Two minutes later one of our second grade teachers opens my door, holding a blue lidded container and I ask her conversationally "have you seen the snake?"

"Oh yes it's in this pot, what should I do with it, do you want to see it, it's just a small one?"

Well I think they heard me scream all the way downtown and the Special Ed teacher in the next room got quite a shock as I nearly climbed my desk into her room! I just kept jabbering "Get it out of here please, now, NOW!!"

By this time she realised I was not a lover of snakes and left. My so called good friend Judy (yes I'm naming and shaming here) peered through my door laughing her head off. I waved her in and demanded "did you tell her to do that?".

She laughingly denied it and assured me she had told the other teacher I'd freak and not to take it in to me! I think I believe her, despite the free laugh she had on me.

Anyway I am actually full of admiration for both of them, as between them they got it into the pot, despite it darting at them. I hear it was only a small Bull snake. But others who saw it said they were also feeling squeamish and of course they do resemble Rattlers which we have alot of around here! Luckily the kids returning from recess never spotted it, or chaos would have ensued.

Another quiet day tomorrow - tornado drill!

A spider is my phobia. How is your toe, by the way?

Oh I so don't like snakes... I'd jump a mile high too!

I'll bet your sore toe slowed your speedy escape from that snake.A tornado drill! Is that everyone into the gym?

What sore toe?

I'm sure that was the last thing on your mind as you were consumed by irrational fear. Not a nice joke to play, but very funny though. Glad you survived.

BAHAHAHAHA Snakes don't bother me for the most part, but spiders are another story! I babysat for a little boy long ago, and once I made him swat at a big ole spider with a broom. I couldn't even do that!

Actually I am a full blown Arachnaphobic too, worse than snakes and lucky for me I have yet to see one of the huge tarantula's around here!

The toe is finally unbandaged, although still covered by a gauze pad and tape, but improving. Today I managed to get sneakers on.

Snakes, yikes! Luckily, I live in good ol' London town where the only reptiles are the ones slithering into the tube every day in the morning during peak hours. Bull snakes? Nah, anacondas, more like it!

Greetings from London.

I don't like snakes either. When I was pregnant with my oldest son, I saw one in my garage. I thought it was a prank and I went to pick it up.

Long story short, I thought I was going to go into labor!!!!

Glad I am not the other one with this fear! Yikes!!!!

Ohmygodohmygod! I'd have been outta that whole school and broken all speed and scream records! That is my BIGGEST phobia! I can't even look at pictures of them - I very carefully scrolled down to make sure you hadn't put its picture here! So don't feel bad that you jumped and screamed...Gawd! did your jump hurt your poor toe?

My husband is a clinical hypnotherapist and he hasn't had a snake phobia yet. I think the average Brit gets through his or her life without ever stumbling across a live snake ( unless at the zoo!) and so it is double shock when a real one comes across the horizons...
I remember being mesmerized by the tiny lizards all over the place when I was in Florida ( Geckos?). I had never seen anything like them. We saw gators ( from a distance!) but no snakes.

Jo, I think you could not say it better from a Brit' perspective

"I think the average Brit gets through his or her life without ever stumbling across a live snake ( unless at the zoo!) and so it is double shock when a real one comes across the horizons..."

I tell people this all the time.
