Brit' Gal Sarah - the Alpaca Farmer?

So there's the Hubster and I reclining on the sectional watching TV the other night. All is right with the world and then an advert comes on for Alpaca farming. As it ends he turns to me and says:

"Maybe we should do that, invest in some Alpaca's?"

To be honest I was so startled I don't even remember my stunned response now!!

I mean c'mon mate, you can take the Brit' Gal out of Britain and out to the back of beyond for love. You may have got her out of the rat-race, slowed down her driving, moved her 100 miles from a mall, eased out of her heels and taught her how to appreciate cowboy boots and say "y'all".

But an Alpaca Farmer - not bloody likely in this lifetime!

Where did you get that photo? I think I dated her once.

Oh Sarah! Sorry but I'm with hubster on this one. They're gorgeous and think of all the wonderful photos and videos you could take never mind the wool!

Alpacas are a growing phenomenon. Nuzzle and Scratch are new stars on Cbeebies http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/nuzzleandscratch/

I have a colleague who has three or four alpacas. Not sure why - I'm pretty sure she doesn't make much (if any) money off of them. I think it may have something to do with taxes and raising alpacas counting as 'farming.' She told us about shearing them - hard work by the sounds of it as they do not appreciate the process at all.

I'm with you - don't do it!

How's this for a deal -- Hubster raises them, you spend the money made from whatever it is they are supposed to make money from? I bet he knows someone with a pasture ... everyone is happy!!! I'd try it at least once!

I just saw a blog from somebody in New Mexico who is raising alpacas or was it llamas... or are they the same thing. She said they are really great animals. Hmmm...?

My daughter had this same "great" idea. Of course, she wanted to raise them in MY backyard!

No way!

Just tell the Hubster "Alpaca up and move back to Blighty if you do!"

Oooh that would be right up my alley, since my days of show jumping and keeping horses have dwindled to just memories.
Who wouldn't love that face, and yes, I think they are raised for their wool, quite a comodity.
Myself, I would just like to have them in the pasture, with a couple of cute donkeys ;)

If that critter was green, he'd look like the Grinch.

What an adorable face.

I would probably, no make that definitely, develop an allergy to them, considering I can no longer wear my Pashmina scarves.

There's an alpaca farm near here. I keep suggesting it as a possible story for the mag, but they haven't gone for it yet. Good luck with your new venture. ;-)

There was also an emu farm, but that seems to have folded.
