A heartwarming and ultimately funny tale

These are our good friends Jack & Peggy, two of the nicest, happiest and most generous people you could ever wish to meet. They live on a Centennial Farm with an original large red barn, at which they hold an annual Square Dancers barn dance and graduation every May.

A few months ago, Peggy was woken at 3am by her cats persistently bothering her and when she looked out of the window, she was horrified to see their garage engulfed in fire. They live about 6 miles out of town in the country, so after calling the Fire Department, they set about grabbing what they considered precious items and getting them out of the house, which is just a few feet from the garage. Peggy grabbed irreplaceable family treasures, Jack grabbed some underwear and clothes! The end result was the total loss of their SUV, garage, all her Christmas ornaments and some damage to the siding on the house. It was believed the likely cause was an electrical fault on their SUV.

Not long after they bought tickets in the Oklahoma Square Dancers Association's annual prize draw. They are leading and longstanding members of this organisation and have always bought and sold tickets. On the day the grand prize was drawn, they were walking around Sam's Club in OKC when the call came....they had won the grand prize, a fully restored 1980 red Corvette!!

To say they were shocked would be a gross understatement. The rest of us were also amazed, delighted and then tickled to death at the thought of the two of them in a 'little red corvette'! Peggy told me today they are having so much fun in this unlikely retiree's car. Jack is in love with it and they will be keeping it until at least July 4th, so they can drive it in the local parade. She said they have also been greatly amused by the reaction of some friends when they drive up in it. One old neighbours jaw literally dropped she said, as he asked "what are you two doing in that kids car?!"

The Hubster and I both believe this just proves good things do happen to deserving people and the Lord will always provide. It also makes us both smile and laugh everytime we think of them or see them in it. The Hubster even heckled Peggy the other night, shouting down our street "Hey baby, when you gonna take me out in your 'vette?"

Great story.

by the way. Thanks for letting me know about Skywatch and My World. I can easily get hooked. I also appreciate that the people who comment are very nice even though my skill level at photography just isn't there. (but I'll get better.)

Lucky buggers! Although I prefer to think that some kind soul in charge of the draw influenced their luck rather than the Lord :)

Sorry I've been away for so long. Long story but I feel motivated to return to the fold.

Happy New Year!!

Wonderful story, Sarah... There are so many good people in this world. Obviously Jack and Peggy are among that group. I'm sorry to hear that the fire did so much damage---but winning that Vette had to be very special. Bet Jack thinks he's a teenager again!!!! ha

Happy New Year to you and hubster.
Hugs,
Betsy

Looks like the 'vette suits them both....happy, smiling couple.
I hope they keep it, though not much room to transport hay bales around, maybe they could put a trailer on the back ?
Happy New Year to you and hubster, look forward to another year of reading your stories.
