Believing I can fly....

Some of you may have noticed this piccie on my left sidebar and the ever increasing number beneath it.

Yep I am finally writing 'the book'! Not just a paragraph here and there, but my actual book I've been thinking about these past few years. In fact I am writing everyday and it's just pouring out of me. I have an ever increasing plot sheet full of story development and research.

I will reveal it's not 'our' story as many people have suggested I write. That just feels too personal and I have no real desire to write about it. I feel I am a fiction writer, always have and so that's what I'm writing, pure fiction but of course with bits of my life threaded through it.

It's about a woman, a big crazy family, an inheritance, in Cornwall, travel, some men, magical elements, mystery, I hope funny and shoes! I also intend it to be more than one book, but we shall see.

I am writing it in the first person, and my mind is obligingly thinking about where to take the story all day long. So if you regularly see me and I seem distant or quiet, I'm just off in another world, that someday I hope I can share with you all. I know what a battle it is to get anything published these days, but having threatened to try for years, I'm finally grabbing the bull by the horns and going for it!

I know if I don't, I will always wonder should I have gone for it. And that's the exact same reason why I am now married to the Hubster and living happily in Okieland. So I just have to go with my gut again, and believe my destiny in life IS to be a published author and the unlikely Brit' wife of an Okie!

Sarah good for you! I have started 3 times to write a book and have not suceed. One author I met over the summer said you really need to write something everyday, so I think you are on the right track! Can't wait to pick up my copy of your book at the bookstore!! Good Luck!

I did a creative writing evening course and the tutor agreed with Sherri, write somthing everyday, make it like a job, also get youself pocket sized note books and just write ideas in them night and day. Its hilarious looking over them years later, and you can still remember what those ideas were. Her other main piece of advice was write what you know, so the intemingling of fiction and real life is the way to go. Best of luck, cheerie

Good luck with the writing although it sounds like you're doing well and don't need it!

Good for you. I've said I wanted to be published for years. Other than the college newspaper. So for me blogging is a daily exercise to get me motivated. I'll enjoy hearing more about this novel.

Oh congratulations. I so want to do that and maybe the writing classes will help me get off high center. Keep up the good work.

Good for you, good luck and go for it.

Now, to work out if there's a correlation between the word count and the cuppa count?

OOh how exciting. I can recommend a book I'm using at the moment - "First Draft in 30 Days" by Karen Wiesner. You don't have to stick to her timeline, but her layout suggestions are so good that I had to change my "ending" based on the character detail she recommends you do. E-mail me if you want more info.

That's awesome! Maybe we can swap books when you're all done because I'm almost done with my book that I have been working on for months. Also a work of fiction, but more of a kid's fantasy story.

Good luck!

Love your post here. So, isn't it a tad difficult writing about Cornwall when living in OK?

good luck with it all. I see it might take you sometime if using a fountain pen though, marvelous as they might be! :)

I so admire people who take he time to actually write a novel. It's enough for me to write my blog but i wish you ever success!!
