Brit' Word of the Day

Today's BWOTD is one the Hubster has decided he is going to use!

"He was creepy and just gave me the collywobbles"

'Collywobbles' = spine-tinglingly scary/scared

I am reliably informed that the American equivalent of this is to have the 'heebie jeebies'!

I like collywobbles much better than heebie jeebies. I do! I wonder what a colly is. But then again, I don't know what a heebie is either. :-0

I haven't heard that in a donkey's age :) Going to use it next time son comes over. Every now and again an old English phrase slips out and takes him by surprise, with the ensuing question, "What's that mean?"

Or 'a sense of impending doom' ... as a former co-worker loved to say whenever we went to a staff meeting...

Well that is certainly a new one for me Sarah! I might have to use that today at some point. I agree with Kay heebie jeebies is over used!

Didn't there used to be a cartoon strip about tiny people called the Colly Wobbles?

To me, it has more of a sense of being nervous (eg before an exam) rather than being creeped out (eg in a haunted house). But it's not a word I use very often!
