Brit' Word of the Day

Todays BWOTD is a word and some cockney rhyming slang thrown in together for good measure!

"I was really miffed with me barnet, so I went for the chop!"

which is actually exactly what I did after work today:

"I was really fed up with my hair, so I went for a cut"

'Miffed' = Fed up, & Barnet (Fair) = Hair

I love this! I just read the book The Midwife by Jennifer Worth, and she writes about working in the East End in the 1950s. The book is full of this kind of language and phrasing. A wonderful music.

Cockney rhyming slang always confuses me. Glad not too many people use it around this part of England. Or at least I haven't noticed it...
