My World - Photographic Success!

A museum in our area holds a photography exhibition annually and it's open to all amateurs. There are 6 categories and it is respected and considered an honour to make it into the exhibition.

I have entered once before 3 yrs ago and failed to get any pictures selected. I decided to give it one last try, as there is an entry fee for all pictures submitted and it can get costly! So after hours trying to pick, I entered 6 pictures into the competition.

There is a different professional photographer as the judge each year and this year it was Mike Klemme. He was the state centennial photographer, with a published glossy book and he's a great landscape photographer, which I was hoping might go in my favour.

And this time I made it, 4 of my pictures were put into the month long exhibition! To say I was thrilled and over the moon would be an understatement.

First up was 'Symmetry' which got an Honorable Mention in the 'Scenic Local' category. The curator of the museum told me this picture has drawn alot of compliments and so it maybe in with a chance for the 'Peoples Choice' as well.

Next up was my shot taken up the length of the Trump Tower in Chicago, taken from the riverboat cruise. This was entered into the 'Scenic' category and also garnered an Honorable Mention.

'Ice Bouquet' I took during our ice storm this past winter. At the time I was struck by how the ice crystals seemed to form flowers on the dormant grasses. I am now very pleased we hadn't got around to cutting them down! The theme for the exhibit this year is 'Thinking Outside the Box', so I entered this in the 'Floral' category, as I felt it was a little different.

But the nicest surprise was that I made it onto the 'Winners Wall' with a second place in the 'Scenic Local' category!

My 'Storm Cloud' taken from our local cemetery, whilst in my pink furry cowboy boot slippers so I didn't miss the shot, did me proud! As I made it onto the 'wall' I also got to see Mike Klemme talking about my picture, and he was very complimentary about the composition.

I have been invited to the reception on October 10, where I will also have an opportunity to meet Mike. All very encouraging for a keen amateur!

To join in the fun go to My World Tuesday

Good on you! The storm cloud is gorgeous -- but most credit to God. My pick is the first shot for your excellent eye!
