Brit' Word of the Day & Immigration

Well I have been up to my elbows in immigration paperwork for the last 48 hours, and I'm sort of brain dead! All I need now is 2 passport photo's to be done and ready for mailing.

So today's post is just a much used  and loved Brit phrase:

"Don't get your knickers in a twist, it'll be okay"

Knickers in a twist = frustrated or worked up and remember, knickers = underwear to a Brit.

I have to say I have not got my knickers in a twist over the Citizenship application. In fact it was a wonderful surprise to find out that for the first time ever, we do not have to submit half a ton of supporting paperwork and evidence.

Wonders will never cease where the USCIS is concerned!

I'm dealing with college applications for the Queenager so my knickers are well and truly in a twist - and I'm knackered!

I've heard this phrase before and it always makes me smile to picture it.

Thank you for your kind words, Sarah. I've been thinking about you through your winter and now here I am with this tsunami around the corner. I think it'll be OK from the sounds of it though.

Glad you didn't have to get your knickers in a bunch over your immigration details.
You probably know more about our country then I do!

Hope it goes through quickly Sarah.
As a Brit. I would like to know what you have to do regards citizenship?

My Green Card is now good for ten years so I'm happy too.

Glad to hear that the final step isn't any more complicated than it was ten years ago when I did it! I had rather assumed they would have made it more difficult!

Our version (Okie) is "don't get your panties in a wad." So how long will this process take now?

Pam - national processing time is 5.1 months, OKC is 5.0, so I could be an American by September!

A party may be called for!

Have fun! And don't get your panties in a bunch!

I guess the oilfield analogy to knickers in a twist is "don't get your panties all in a wad."

Looking forward to you being an American. So what NFL football team are you going to root for?

I'm a cheese head, after all being a Man Utd football fan, I have to continue to support the BEST!

I'm rooting for ya, Sarah! It will be an honor to have you as a fellow citizen of the USA.

Good luck with your immigration papers, I know it can be a pain...Unfortunately I didnt have the patience to follow it through when I lived in the UK. I moved back home. Loving your blog by the way.

We Americans Say: Don't get your panties in a bunch. I believe it has the same meaning! Good luck with Immigration!

Good luck on the the application and taking the test. In your other post about studying, I did something similar and did a quiz night with UK residents on questions from the Knowledge test. I wouldn't be able to pass the Citizenship test without studying. I can't even think how to spell it right now:)
