As you may have heard, Okieland has been hit by some major rain in the past 24 hours. In fact as I type this we are the lead story on CNN as rescuers try to save a teenage girl in a tree above flood waters in Oklahoma City. They reached her but then their rescue boat sank and now a dive team is trying to reach all of them!
When I took these pictures around town last night at 7pm we had numerous weather warnings; tornado watch, flash flood, severe thunderstorm all issued. These skies told us we were about to get hammered, it started as we drove home and proceeded to thunder and rain solidly into the early hours. I have never seen it rain so hard in my life!
We got 2.5 inches in 6 hours, to put this in perspective, from Jan - June 2010 we only had 11.5 inches total! But we got off light, around Oklahoma City they have had between 6 - 11 inches in the past few hours.
So my world today is 'Water World' which is quite bizarre for Okieland in June, this has been a very wierd year for weather! My blog seems to be turning into a weather blog lately.

We are watching that rescue as well. Another boat has reached the scene and it looks as if everyone is safe. I'm glad you made it through the storm okay.
Gee, I hope you and your husband survive this freaky weather! Good luck!
Freaky weather indeed, Sarah! We've had different weather here in the northwest ever since January, but nothing to complain about -- just very different. That much rain in Oklahoma and Texas is really unusual. Hope you guys continue to get through the storms with no damage! Great photos -- scary, but great!

Those clouds looks far too close for comfort!
Hope you are not flooded out.

Oh, the quantities of water! Wonderful pictures.
We got pounded also here in Tulsa and its continuing to pour.
Wow, those are some serious clouds. The first photo is impressive!
What a horrible mess .. if its not the wind its the rain ... OK is a true weather mess!
You have rain and I have snow - either way, if we survive, it should be good for the wildflowers!
Sarah, I heard about your bad weather and was wondering how you were fairing! I'm glad you are fine. Please be safe.
So much rain in such a short time can only bring misery. Hope you are spared the worst of it and my positive thoughts for those affected.
glad to know you're safe. it can get really scary out there.
I pray that you are all safe. Tornado is pretty scary. There was one mini that bypassed the city and hit the northern coastline with a bang of destruction. It was also due to a freak weather.
I can't even imagine this flooding in June. Very freaky weather. There have now been 20 confirmed fatalities from the flooding here in Arkansas last Friday.

A weather blog indeed. We have a thunderstorm in East Tennessee as I write this. I hope you don't need a boat like the other poor people we are hearing about.
The sky looks threatening. Incredible so much water.Hope you are save and sound!
We had those storms come through here in SE Kansas late last night, nothing like OKC got. Great photos!
Isn't it just amazing. Couldn't take my eyes of the television of that rescue. I'm beginning to grow moss on my north side I can tell ya.
I heard about the storms in your area and was hoping you were OK. Seems like everyone is having unusual weather. We just have the heat - today was the third day in a row in the upper 90s. With our humidity the heat index has been well over 100.
Very weird weather, Sarah, also in Arkansas where that river rose 20 feet the other day. Glad you are not flooded at your house.
Hope you are alright and not flooded out or blown away. I too have felt like the weather blog lately. We had snow on Sat.
Nothing normal about weather.
Enormous storm clouds.
Great captures.
The weather really keep on changing.
Stay safe.
Goodness, reminded me of one of the worst floods of Manila. Hope you're all safe. You take care. Great captures!
I thought about you when the reports of OK flooding hit the news. Glad you are above the waterline! You got some awesome shots of the clouds.
It seems that the weather is "ass backwards" around the world. We have similiar skies to yours however it offers up nothing but rain....no tornados, yet!
Have a great week.
Smiles
Wow - what a lot of rain. Hope everyone was rescued!
Those skies are so dramatic - full of beauty and the power of nature.
